I can't 'commit' to a permanent mobile installation, but I want something better than just sitting the radio in the passengers seat. I also want the flexibilty to be able to carry the unit between a couple of cars.

Ideally, I'd like a portable kit that contains a single lighter plug connection that would split between my 996 and a Garmin GPS. I'd have room for the garmin and perhaps an FM transmitter.

I was thinking along the lines of something like:

...and the intent is to be able to use the radio in the case.

And I've seen these 'friction bean bag' mounts for Garmin GPSs:

ok, so anyone got any good ideas for how to put this together?

Once dealt with a similar issue for a vhf system, we mounted the kenwood mobile units to 3/8 thick plastic (actually cutting boards) and then wedged the extra plastic between the seat and the centre console in the Audis.

Just a quick and inexpensive solution.

That's what I'm using. I got the cae from ScannerMaster (now discontinued) for the 780 and am ablte to use it with the 996 or BCT15. I got a "Y" adapter for the cigar lighter from RadioShack and power both the radio and Garmin Etrex this way.

The case is Durus Nylon, same as the "Offical" Uniden cases for the 246/230/330/396.

Now if ScannerMaster/Universal-radio would sell the case again and an internal battery supply as they did for the 780, I'm sure it would sell, or if enough of you together would order from BEE Electronics, I'm sure they would fill an order for you.

You could even do a free logo for orders over 20 pcs. Maybe "RadioReference" just like the tee-shirts.
