I’m slowly working on a base station with a few good mobile radios. I’m browsing through the internet on antennas and seen what’s called an Antron A99. Are these antennas any good for a starter? It would have to be based on the ground instead of on the shed roof.

Probably not. CB antennas are verticals intended to be put in the air. You won't have much coverage, if any, on the ground. At the minimum, consider using a pushup pole guyed with rope to mount the antenna.

Well my hands are kinda tied. I’m not allowed to drill holes in the building but, I have a hole I can use from an old land line near the ground. I have two 6 foot copper rods and some really heavy copper wire for a ground.

Not a tower substitute, granted, but it’d get one on the air till a better solution derived.

Reason I have one is the need to disassemble for easy transport. I’m not on-air, it’s stowed away.

Permanent antennas need much more work for proper mount (wind load) and DC ground.
