Hey All,

Anyone been listening to Brantford Fire recently? it seems something has changed and I can not get them, only static when they talk anymore. FORTS had given me some info before for WIN96

In Win96 set the bank type to 'MOT', and MOT 9600 CC to Multi Table, then click on the Extended Tables box. In the window that pops up click on 800 MHz under the 9600 CC column. Now, in the table below change the first line to these values:

CH Lo - 0
CH Hi - 4095
Base Freq - 860.0000
Offset - 0
Step - 12.500

but found this seems not to work anymore either, Anyone who can shed some light on this??

thanks

Yes, I have monitored them for a long time but had been off them for the summer, so unless this changed recently??

Something may have changed, who knows. Not quite sure what you mean by static... you shouldn't be hearing anything resembling static on a digital system. If it was garbled then perhaps they have gone encrypted, but I don't think that's likely the case.

Only real way to find out is for someone in the area with a tapped radio or an SDR dongle to step up and make some recordings or run UT/Pro96COM.

By "static" I take it that it's some sort of radio sound that is not analog voice. If you can
figure it out great, in any case perhaps you could post a sound sample.

Some possibilities are that they changed talkgroups, have gone encrypted
(may be unlikely, but....), or possibly gone to Phase II if the system supports it.

I ran Unitrunker on Brantford this afternoon, and all is as usual. Fire Department coming in loud and clear, lots of ENC Police traffic. Techmerlins system settings are the same as my PSR-800.

Thanks Andy. You are using the adjusted settings Forts had suggested I posted earlier? Or the default import from RR?

Ok let me give that a shot and see what becomes. I should hear something in the next few hours no matter as radio check is usually around 7 or f nothing before

Looks like no difference, still something seems to be off. I cleared the scanner and loaded in directly from RR with no modifications and heard nothing for a while. I then loaded the other two frequencies listed on RR (5 total) and heard the "static" again when it would appear there was traffic (Forts, the static is like an old analog system turning the squelch down to far). i then tested further using the extended tables outlined earlier and got the same. tested one further and put it in closed mode and now hear nothing at all again.

icarus1963 what scanner were you using yesterday when you heard them with the RR import?

that could be, being icarus1963 was using a PSR-800 and I was on a Pro-96. I will have to do some digging

looks like I have some traffic again.I cleared the scanner and worked solely with Win96 this time. I loaded up all the frequencies then changed the multi table. I could hear the encryption TG's (201) so then closed it up to only the fire TG's and hear traffic on 501. I am still not hearing dispatch (500) but will keep working on that.

not going to knock a specific software but this is not the first time Win96 has sorted out issues of another software

I tried the Butel software with my 96 back in the day and often found I would end up with all sorts of odd things that I didn't expect. Never had any issues at all with Win96 however. Hopefully this will get you back on track. If you get it working to your satisfaction you should make a vscanner backup so you have something to revert back to in the future if need be.

Hey Guys...I think in some cases your software makes a very simple action very complicated.
I have a Uniden396T that I load manually. Here is a very simple way to load in the Brantford system.I have been listening off and on since the new system started.
program system-new system-mot-p25 yes-set freq-new freq.861.2625 DAT.(only freq needed at this time)
set modulation nfm-edit group-set quick key
scan in search to get IDs.Fire is in the clear and sound quality is great.

NOTE; Fire uses three IDs/Channels for most calls.
TONE: 500
DISPATCH:644537 (strange id nu on my scanner)
MOBILES 501

This is how it worked for me last Thursday when I heard two calls going at the same time.
I hope this works for you....good luck.
