Brazos County Skyline / Texas Communications

I have finally programmed in Skyline Communications (460 MHz) , Skyline Communications (850 MHz) & Texas Communications (College Station 460 MHz).

My question is who here listens to any of these? I started listening last night and all I heard was a bunch of beeping and nonsense. Today there is lots of activity, but there is a lot that seems to have been added or not updated. Example 0-02-114 sounds like something to do with oil wells, but I don't know.

Anyone have an updated file that they have that they would be willing to share?

Also, what type of radios are being used for these phone patches?

That is what 90% of the traffic on the skyline system is, the phone patches. However, St. Joseph Regional has several active talkgroups on the system as well. You will find a lot of the oilfield stuff on the Texas Communications system. I identified and confirmed a lot of what you see on the database page back when I listened to this system. But it is a business, and subscribers change and grow all the time, so keeping a perfectly accurate list is nearly impossible unless you work there and have access to a radio registry. If you hear anything that does not match up, or something new, please submit it to the database.

There is a lot of interesting things on these phone patches. Does this come from a type of radio or what?

I bet if half knew that someone was listening, they wouldn't be checking their bank accounts voice mails, etc.....LOL

I've been listening to those for years now. The 850 system has a lot of phone patches and Nextel two-way stuff. As for 0-02-114, which one are you talking about? The phone patches are just that--phone patches. Somehow and for some reason they patch these certain phones to the system. It's hard to track down who they are for, since they seem to always be for a different person. The ones with the "BEEP" between transmissions are Nextel, and they appear on both Skyline systems. As for the radios, most users have Kenwoods with displays, but the screens are either blank or say "CH-1". On the 850 system, I recently tried to get a bunch of old ones removed, but the update I submitted was never processed for some reason. The channels I have here are the ones currently known to be active unless noted otherwise.

I just just using that as an example that it sounded like an oil well service, but wasn't listed. I just starting listening last night, so I was just wondering on a few things. I can't believe I've never put this into the scanner before. They sure talk a lot durning the day.

Good list there. Just wanted to chime in.
Yea the businesses that use these systems constantly change so nearly impossible to keep up. Sometimes you can figure it out by what they're talking about. Listening to oil field comms and most of that stuff is about like watching paint dry. However there are a few interesting ones in there, like St.Joseph and the wrecker drivers. I used to get a big kick years ago listening to this one wrecker company that did a lot of apt complex tow aways. Interestingly enough the phone # that people would call to reclaim their vehicle was one of the those phone patches. Boy, that made for some great late night monitoring! Forget listening to the cops!

One set of talkgroups to keep an eye on is the ones listed used during TX Reds Festival. These are "cache" radios actually belong to the EOC. So never know who may be using them next. I know we used them quite a bit during Hurricane Ike to communicate between the EOC and all the shelters in town. There are more talkgroups there than whats listed for them.

As for the nextel comment I don't know if I would call it nextel. Nextel uses a digital transmission iDEN format. I've seen these radios though, they look like a typical handheld, usually EF Johnson or Kenwoods but they have a keypad on the front for dialing out. They do not have duplex comms like a regular telephone so the operator has to key the mic to talk and unkey to listen. The beep is there to let the other party know that they can talk. There are apparently some radio phones that have a handset? and have full duplex comms.

I believe its just a marketing term referring to the aspect of normal two way radio. They are trying to target businesses that use cell phones for comms and trying to get them into two way radio, saying you can hear and talk to everyone in your group, not one-on-one like cell phones.
I believe this is what they are referring to.
I also know that businesses can talk to other businesses too. I've seen the wrecker guys do this, talk to other wrecker drivers. Not sure if they can talk to just anyone on the system by punching in a certain # on their keypad or just what their radio has been programmed for.

Maybe they are patching NEXTEL talkgroups to these TRS. For example, maybe some business was using NEXTEL but thought they were too expensive. The business could start a transition to the Skyline TRS, with some users on the new Skyline radios, and some users using NEXTELs. Peter Sz
