I just heard a deputy call dispatch, and while pressing pause, the dispatcher said "Unit calling, you are on OLD Bryan Tac 1", which was correct. There was no reply, so I went back to scanning and never heard the deputy reply on TxWARN, and I wasn't listening to the old SO at the time. Since my last post, there has been no traffic at all on the old BPD pri or sec - just that one call on Tac 1.

Well, I guess that proves it. If it lasts through tomorrow, I'll update the DB with the new info. Have you started looking for any of the Bryan City Services channels yet? It would be even more confirmation if they've moved, as well.

I'll be online here until about 3 PM or so, so notify me if anything changes.

At about 1:16, I heard brief scrambled traffic on TxWARN car -> car. I stopped at Radio Shakck across the street from the store to tell them about the new activity, and they didn't know what I meant by TxWARN. And while typing this, another scrambled call on car -> car (1:27).

Interesting. I will be down in BCS and Navasota the next few days (vacationing from Shreveport) and I would like to hear the TxWARN system being used. I can't think it will be all that different for BPD and SO since they have been using P25 for years now.

I suspect some of the VICE or Narcotics units are using Car-to-Car (CTOC). That's been going on since yesterday evening.

Telling RadioShack about it is waste of time. I once nearly got into a somewhat heated argument when the salesman at the counter insisted that Bryan PD was encrypted.

I think that's right about the scrambled traffic. Also, I don't know what would be best to enter for city svcs as I never scan them. I did put in BTU as well as solid waste, since it's trash day, and no activity on either. I did confirm that BCSO pri and sec is still on the old system right now. I went back to regular scanning for a while - fast moving line of storms headed this way. I think the Radio Shack guy would have been more interested had I asked about some $10 RC toys...

Yesterday I heard somebody calling out on BCSO primary on the college station tower, but never heard anything back. It just sounded like somebody keying up on the wrong system, but it could also be testing. I haven't heard anything since though.

I'm not too surprised that BCSO hasn't moved yet. After all, they never did let go of their VHF primary and secondary channels. It'll probably be another week or so before all of city services moves there. They probably have more radios than BCSO, Bryan Police, and Bryan Fire combined, so they're probably still programming their new radios. Also, it'll be quite a jump from the XTS3000 Model 1's they have to a 700-capable XTS5000 (or possibly the APX7000--a few months ago, I heard some radio techs discussing how much better the audio was on one, also, there was some sort of promo video posted here that was made by Motorola discussing the APX--it featured an interview with a guy from TxWARN).

Also, have you been picking up anything from Montgomery County SO? I can usually tell when there are techs in town because of those TGs popping up.

It's been a while since I listened for anything other than Bryan activity. I got kind of frustrated waiting for something to happen, so I just set up TxWARN for BPD - and it finally paid off. I seldom even listen to College Station or A&M, spending most scanning time with Bryan, BCSO, DPS and Med 12. Now that things are picking up, I may listen around a bit more.

I tend to listen to pretty much everything that pops up on TxWARN. It's interesting to listen to the out-of-county stuff, especially Washington county. I also like listening to the utility stuff, it keeps my scanner active, and, when there's a power outage, I can grab my 396XT and listen to BTU to find out what happened. If you've been listening to a scanner of some sort for as long as I have (10+ years) you subconsciously look for certain "keywords", such as "structure fire" or other terms used during one, such as "hydrant", or in the case of law enforcement, "10-80" or "major accident". TAMU is interesting to listen to during football games or other major events. When the fire broke out in Zachary the other day, I was listening to not only the fire department and UPD, but also to the Physical Plant channels, such as Area Maintenance and Energy Management (who were in charge of maintaining the possible cause of the fire).

I occasionally see MCSO bouncing off the college station tower (the one I listen to 90% of the time), but I don't actually listen to the traffic.

Mentioning the zachary building fire... I thought it was funny the firefighters broke out the access panels into the space behind the bathroom walls, and then the maintenance guys showed up to give them the keys only a few minutes too late to actually use them. Job security I guess...

I am no longer able to keep up with very much going on at any one time. When I started listening to police, it was pretty much 37.180 for regular police and 42.9 for DPS. A two channel radio would get just about everything there was to listen to, and there were no scanners at all. My first "police" radio was an army surplus tank radio, and when multiple frequencies became available and radios first began to "scan" it was interesting to see all the different ways that were used to enable multiple channel reception. Things were very simple in the 50's, and following technology over the years was pretty easy, but now I find it more and more difficult to keep up with all the new terminology. If it weren't for you younger guys, Radio Reference and Win500, I would be totally lost. I keep at least one fully capable scanner, but I'm not able to run multiple scanners at once and keep up with like I used to. :) As I type this, I'm hearing "service test" on TxWARN BCSO primary and some SO traffic as well - maybe they are making progress today too.

I suspect that by the end of next week, the County system will end up the same way as College Station's Type II system (on air but no traffic).

I'm listening to my scanners right now, and BCSO is still on the County system. I think Bryan Fire has completely switched over because a call dropped a few minutes ago requiring the responding units to use TAC 2. Well, their new TAC 2 on TxWARN came up, and apparently they are using it, so I suspect they have. Haven't heard anything on the new BCSO TGs so far.

I know this is a tad off topic, but does anyone know what the codes are that CSPD uses? Signal 70, Close at 11, etc.... I understand 10 codes, but these are not them.

BCSO is still using their old system tonight also.

Thanks

I wish I also knew what those codes meant. They've been driving me nuts for years. As for SO, there was just the one transmission (that I know of). However, it probably won't be too much longer until they switch. I think Bryan Fire has almost completely switched over, but they are still simulcasting on the County system. They're using their TxWARN tactical channels now, and I haven't noticed any traffic on their old ones recently.
