Just got on the local TV station that the White House and the U.S. Capital Building have been evacuated due to an incursion into their air space by some airplane. Anybody in the area?

OK, they just announced that it appears to have been an accidental incursion, and has been diverted. It's now under fighter escort. Somebody's butt is seriously in a jam!

A communications breakdown led federal officials to believe the plane might be targeting the Capitol, but it turned out to be carrying Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher, who had been cleared to fly into the area.

I don't know why this is breaking news like it's never happened before. This happens frequently.
I can't wait to get home and review the Milair recordings I make daily now since missing too many of these incidents. (300 or so freqs in the rotation)
I'm in Wilmington DE but RX is great for DC aircraft.

Dave, see my post on the Maryland thread, "Sticky thread for major events." I posted the freqs and callsigns for the F-16s from the DC-ANG and Customs that were sent up to intercept the Cessna. It was an exciting event to listen to as it happened.

No fly zone means no fly zone. They must have gave the plane all kinds of warnings.

The pilot in charge of the offending aircraft should be fined what those two F-16 cost us, the taxpayers today!!

CBS radio has been reporting that it was a Student/Instructor that got confused 
and went into the nofly Zone. CBS also reported that 4 flares were fired to get the pilots attention, and then they were escorted to a small airfield, where the plane was towed off the runway.

i was watching the news and the plane was piloted by an instructer and a student pilot, they said that the 2 will never fly again. also, dave do you post recordings, if not then i would love a clip

According to what I heard, the F-16s were sent first, followed by the Blackhawk. Logical, since the fighters would be the ones to actually effect the shootdown if necessary. Media reports at the time I made the first post stated that the plane penetrated the no-fly zone, exited after being warned away, then turned and reentered the zone. At that point the F-16s were scrambled to intercept. Certainly the type of behavior you'd expect from somebody up to no good.
As for "threatening", imagine a similiar plane piloted by a couple of terrorists, with a 100 pounds of explosives packed in with 200-300 pounds of radiological waste, a so-called "dirty bomb". Imagine this light aircraft flown into the dome at the Capital Building or the portico of the White House and the bomb detonating on impact, along with the explosion of the fuel in the plane's tanks.
Is this starting to look "scarey"?

True. But the response time of an F-16 is much better! :lol: And an air-to-air missile doesn't have to slow down to Cessna speeds.
