Been working on this for 4 days now with no results, found freqs in the rr data base also east central scanner page, it appears the base changed to Mot Astro dig 400 MHz, I have a BC796, I have all the freqs programed with most of of the TG, have had it scanning for days and never hear a thing, also this is trunked so i made sure I had it set to trunk but still no good. while scanning it doesn't search for a control channel like others I have programed in the scanner, The scan scrolls across the screen, the freq ranges I have programed are 406.1750 To 410.7625 I have some others in the 200 and 300 range but not trunked, sure hope someone can help this has been driving me nuts for 4 days.

Military Base

Hello Gator, I have the Bearcat BC250D with card and how I programmed it was I, using the information from East Central Florida Scanner Page and the Motorola Astro SmartZone Digital Trunked System programmed in 406.100 as the base frequency, 12.5 as spacing frequency and 380 as the offset channel. I can hear the activity at the base with the antenna that came with the scanner. I live about 15 or 20 miles from the base. Hi KD. Did u program your scanner with software or by hand, reason I asked you are using base freq and offsets and such. I am using the uniden software for programing the scanner and it sets those setups or the radio does lol not sure which but they are set as u said. went into east central florida this morning and found some milair for Kennedy Space Center in the 118.000 VHF range and programed them in, and I am getting quite a bit of action up there on those freqs. I must be doing something wrong on the 401.00 freq, using the freq list on the east central scanner page I have KSC/SHILO/CCAFS/PAFP/MALABAR with all the TGs, I put all the freqs in one bank with the TGs, Set the program on Mot Astro SmartZone UHF Trunk, is this correct? maybe I am to far away to receive on UHF I dont Know. But I am getting action on the VHF Freq.

I am sorry, I forgot to tell you I am using a Discone exterior antenna.

Seems like all is ok, however I had to put each tower, i.e. KSC, PAFB and so on in a seperate bank but your radio may be alittle different in that aspect. Yes the Motorola Type 2 -UHF is the type. You want to have your status bit ON, End to detect and as we stated the base freq 406.10, step of 12.5, and the offset channel set to 380. I also had to read the manual sereval times before it sunk in my thick head. You asked if I program manually or with a program ? I have done both. I have found that the ARC250 software does the best. I also have scancat and it has features that the other doesn't have. So it's pretty much up to the user as to what you like best. You never mentioned as to where you live but I believe that the discone in the attic should be sufficient. Just make sure you have double checked all your settings. HMMMM Maybe I also Have to put each tower in its own bank, sure hope not it seems to be a waste of banks to do this. but you could be right maybe thats why I am not getting anything, by the way I live in Martin county (Stuart) Maybe I will try just 1 set of freq in one bank to try it first before i go though all the work of doing the whole thing, which tower is your most active I will try that one first.

Patrick Air Force Base and KSC are the most active for me. With an outside antenna you should have no problems, but I've been wrong before

I Tried PAFB & KSC and still could not receive anything on them, so I plugged in some VHF freqs for KSC from Radios on line and getting some action up there. Air To Air, Daytona appr, Ground Control and others but I am at a dilemma with the 400MHz, everything seems to be ok but I can't receive any control Channels. I am New to all this so I am probably doing something wrong. I think I will Give up on it for awhile. thank you for your help KD.

In regards to Receiving KSC, CCAFS, PAFB 400MHz Digital

Hey guyz I'm in the rocklegde Suntree area and recieve KSC and PAFB, CCAFS fine but when I go to work in Palm Bay I cannot recieve any of them besides the Malabar Tower which isn't used much. Distance might have something to do with the Guy in Stuart. Unless he has a 1000 ft tower, he won't be able to receive them. I stream my pro-96 online on the weekends.

I also live in the Suntree area and rcv KSC, Canaveral, and Patrick (separate banks) with duckie. I generally use an attic mounted yagi for better coverage though. I lived in Palm Bay prior to moving to Suntree and I had a 200-400mhz omni 25' in the air with LDF4 coax, rcv'd Patrick good, Canaveral most times, and KSC never. So TheGator in Stuart has no hope of rcving these sites. I programmed my BC250DiD by hand using East Central Florida Web Page(accurate) and info gained by working out at Canaveral.

Monitoring KSC trunk system?

Hi,

We are planning to head down to KSC to see the last few shuttle
launches, and would very much like to be able to listen to their trunked
radio system.

I'm hoping someone out there that has some experience with the KSC
trunked radio system can help me verify ahead of time that I have things
programmed correctly. We went down for the Discovery rollout with the
system programmed as a P25 system, but never heard any voice traffic.

In 'hold mode' you could hear the control channels and data on some of
the other listed frequencies, but never heard any voice traffic.

I've been told that I need to program this system as a Motorola Type 2
system. I have done so, but I'm out of range to test it ahead of time.

Picking up KSC's 400 tonight down here in Jensen Beach. We can sometimes hear this system under the right atmospheric / ionosphere conditions. This usually occurs in the early AM hours. I am using a discone antenna at 40ft, a bcd996xt and K4LRP's East Central Florida Scanner Page. Yes John and BigCountry you are right about Malabar and East Central Florida Scanner Page being very accurate. Also TheGator, don't give up the ship!. If you are up at 400 to 630 hours, give a try. 73's to all, KF4NGA
