The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is there a way, or device that will allow a P25 system and Mototrbo communicate? Trying to avoid going full analog.

Back Ground:

We are an Arena, (County owned, privately managed) When we have events going on the Sheriffs department provides officers for security details and traffic management. Their system is P25, my system is Mototrbo. I have been working with their radio techs to try an bridge our systems together when we have events.

My general goal is to be able to communicate with the Sheriffs office when/if we need to communicate. Right now we only have 1 radio to give up to the supervisor, if that individual becomes incapacitated for what ever reason we lost our only line of communication to onsite sheriffs.

Being a public assembly facility we have high profile events from time to time and need this line of communications to be as simple and effective as possible.

We the, arena, have looked into getting the same system as they have to help solve this issue, but budget does not allow this at the current time.

Thoughts?

I would see if the Sheriffs Dept could provide you one radio to keep at your command center to use to communicate with the deputies. I don't think they would want all your radios to able to transmit on their Public Safety system.

That has been discussed, if we can bridge the systems. The capability would be limited to Administration level of personnel. General labor, usher, ticket takers, operations, would not have the channel programmed in.

We have similar situations and dedicate a donor radio on each system and dedicate an ACU-M. I have considered a C-Bridge for two of my RF Links but never was able to get a clear picture of if it provides an interface to P25 via ISSI, FSSI or simply a 4-wire analog pair.

Your answer depends on your systems and your budget -- If the Sheriffs office console has a Conventional Interface you could just place a radio there on a talk group that they could monitor and patch as necessary. Then place the group in those radios you want to scan / be able to talk on it.

Or you can as suggested, do a JPS ACU-M, or two JPS NXU-2A adapters back to back, or Telex IP 224's back to back, or Racom's C-Bridge or, or, or, or --

There are probably more 4-wire bridging solutions on the market now than there are ............

Good luck.. Oh and don't forget with the Sheriff's permission (aka under his license) you might be able to cross program some U-Tac channels..

None of your people should ever be talking on (patched to) public safety channels. The cheapest thing is to hand out one or two of your private radios to sheriff supervisors or liaison deputies, which you are already doing. Keep it Simple. No need to waste your time worrying about it any further.

If you can only afford to give them one radio as you say, you will certainly not be able to afford a patching device, so forget about it. Even if you could, that would be some serious overkill for your average special event type stuff.

I would keep it the way it is, and just get the cell phone number of the sheriff supervisor and/or a liaison or two, and you're golden. If your nightmare scenario of losing your one cop-issued radio occurs (it rarely, if ever will), get on the phone and call them if there is an issue.

Good luck.

...or one (or both) can add a TG on their respective systems for major events at the arena where they are both patched to eachother.

Does your faultily use some kind of dispatcher or control center during events? I'm guess that if it is of much size that you have a few different channels/talkgroups on your system and would need to have someone who monitors all the groups and passes messages between them. If so and if the sheriff dept is using some kind of event channel for your events the simplest and from what Ive seen works best is to have the event dispatcher on that system as well, passing traffic between your groups and the county system as needed.

Having worked in a number of these types of setting I can say that having field personal acting as relays between systems and/or groups works until you REALLY need it to and then often those same people who you are relying on have other, often times have more pressing duties especially when you are talking about supervisory level personal.

4 wire interface to/from the P25 system, IP-level connection to/from the MOTOTRBO system.

But only a few that will connect into the MOTOTRBO system at the IP level.
