Brief band opening this AM

Anyone else catch "Los Angeles" this morning at about 0900EST on 42.5000? YL dispatcher gave a BOL for two reckless vehicles possible racing activity. No FCC-ID, just "Los Angeles clear" and a time check. Not sure if this was CHP or another agency, but I HAD heard her voice before in previous band openings.

No I did not catch it. What type of antenna were you using?

The RadioShack copy of the ChannelMaster Scantenna. I forgot the part number, but it's the one with the lowband element running vertical and the smaller elements running approx in an "X" array around roughly the same center. It's about 30ft up.
I really want to try to put up a dedicated LowBand antenna, but my wife advises that too much aluminum in the air would not be a good idea. Something about hazardous to my health.

Thats cool, I also am running the same antenna howevr mine is only on a 10 ft mast off my deck (maybe 14 FT in the air). I bought the antenna from Radio Shack when they had discounted them to $5.00. Maybe I should increase my mast height.

OK, had a more significant opening this morning from midnight up till about 0400.
From Southern Prince George on a mobile (bc950 w/a a/s mon-52)
copied :

159.150 DC MPD citywide 1 simulcast
155.175 Monmouth NJ Rescue (v/busy)
154.385 unknown PD
155.535 unknown PD w/ Northern accents
159.150 another unknown PD w/ rather informal chat about a meeting for coffee break
and many other unknown agencies when searching VHF high.
On another radio (GE Rangr) copied :

154.695 Pa SP with Morrisville calling Hamburg 7 (who wouldn't answer)
154.695 Unknown NC Correctional facility
154.665 Unknown NE fd/rs



More curiously, copied a ham fr Norfolk VA on Med 9 462.950 chatting w/ other amateurs. Confirmed not overload or intermod on my end, Q5 into the rptr, wherever this particular Med 9 transmitter was. Perhaps he was "on the job" and had grabbed the wrong mic?

Hope I wasn't the only one who caught this opening; what did everyone else catch?

Yes, I did hear the opening from late last night until driving to work this morning at around 0600. Didn't get to listen to hear how long it lasted. I am getting ready for trip to OC, Md and was working on updating freqs in the PRO-96. During this activity heard Delaware TRS and NJSP system A TRS (Southern System). The first time I have heard this type of long range 800MHZ ducting. It was only on indoor antennas, since I live in Apartment just North of Baltimore, Md. Didn't search much, but did hear the VSP in Chesapeake, VA and USCG Group Cape Hatteras.

I got a lot of skip here in Portsmouth From the FDNY Brooklyn and Queens as well as a lot skip out of New Jersey.
