Be careful with your scanner. The port security or the ship security might confiscate your scanner. Check with the cruise line first

Well first, as already suggested - confirm that the radio will not be confiscated and is not on the banned list.
Second,. foreign countries do not use the same band plan, channel splits as the US of A - the only way would be to experiment and search
and/or see what is already reported here on RR to begin with, keeping in-mind it is not all inclusive

As to P25, YMMV but yes I have encountered P25 in foreign countries as well as TETRA, DMR, LTR and plenty of Analog if you know the languge you can understand them, but most would not be in english.

what kind of stuff can I listen to
like in any other jurisdiction, I have more than once brought on board a scanner and as I got closer to port I was able to hear in the 800 bands trunking systems for said community, that were not listed here in DB, but also I heard in the same bands as in North America, taxis ,buses tours etc on VHF/UHF, there are no secrets in band allocation in other jurisdictions I find , if your search usual bands you will here something

The ship might be running a trunked DMR system as many do. But know the rules of the cruise to avoid having your radio confiscated.

after just completing a 10 day cruise with 436 scanner and DMR upgrade the activity heard was not worth bringing the scanner. Ships on board radio was as mentioned DMR. FRS frequencies were silent. Marine frequencies had some traffic while in port but upon leaving port effectively no traffic other then some ship-to-ship.

on future cruises I am not planning to bring the scanner .

Hope this helps in your thinking

Some have DMR Trunks, however most are DMR Conventional or many still Analog

I didn't bring my scanner but I did bring my laptop with several sdr dongles. Used DSD+, DSDplus FastLane and Unitrunker2. Ship (Carnival Pride) had both DMR and Conventional as well as Marine.

You could even sit in the parking lot of the Cruiseport and capture more :)

I took mine on our Carnival cruise a few years ago, and as others said unless you know several foreign languages you're not going to hear much in most cases. There was some shipboard communication, but 99% of it wasn't in English so I couldn't follow any of it. No traffic per say on the marine channels unless we were close to land or one of the ports. Scanners are officially on the no no list with Carnival, but I buried mine in my laptop back under all my adapters, cords, etc. and nobody noticed. I'd definitely put it in something you're carrying on if you do decide to take it. If you put it in checked luggage it most likely would be confiscated, as they check that a lot more thoroughly. They even opened very travel size toiletry bottle my wife took on our last cruse to make sure somebody wasn't sneaking on 3 ounces of alcohol in one of them. One they didn't put the lid back on good and it got all over everything else in the bag.
