• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Just read an ebay listing for a UHF MTS2000 and the guy says he last programmed the radio with CPS but he can take it back to DOS if he needs to. That's not possible, correct?

Depends on what special software tools he has that aren't available to the general public.

Not that difficult actually. Using certain-only-available-to-some-people software, you can techincally read the s-record out of the radio, unpack the s-rec, then save a copy of the unpacked codeplug to disk, exit the very-shady software. Open normal DOS RSS, open the previously saved codeplug, and CLONE it into the radio (DO NOT DIRECTLY WRITE THE CODEPLUG).

Remember, NEVER EVER, directly write an MTS2000 with the very-shady-not-really-supposed-to-have-it software.

Of course this is if the firmware version of the MTS2000 is >R5.41. If its less then or is R5.41 then do whatever you want with the very-shady software.

As with the above post - if things are posted in BOLD PRINT, that means unless you are Moto-savy, don't buy the radio!

seller doesn't provide the radio's firmware version, which can tell you if it will allow you to do things you shouldn't. and also if it will do narrowband 2.5KHz synthesizer steps. IIRC F/W version has to be higher than 6.01 to support full narrowband operation (2.5KHz steps).

this isn't a huge deal, but next year it will be. Good news is, it's an MTS2000, so it supports Flashport upgrading. Getting a firmware bump shouldn't be too much hassle. Most dealers CAN do it, whether they WILL is another story.
