Hi all.

Have spent the long weekend in North Bay.

Noticed when programming my radio for the trip, Brinks (151.100) is now listed as NXDN (RAN 46).

I’ve not heard anything in the 48 hrs I’ve been here, but just wondering if this is common, or if they even still use radios?

Until now, hadn’t tried monitoring them in a good 5+ years.

Thanks in advance.

I've never heard any activity on that frequency at least in the GTA. They used to use a UHF frequency in the GTA and they were carrying CP200's up until about 5 years ago. Not sure if its still in use or they have switched to cell phones.

Many years ago, a transmitter on 151.100MHz would be carried by the crew collecting the money and the vehicle had a matching receiver so the driver could keep an ear out on them. Never heard any two way comms on the frequency and you had to be close to hear them.

The shuttle trucks for the factory I worked at were on the same frequency and we could sometimes hear Brinks on the base station with an outside antenna.

I can vouch for that. I've heard that as well many many moons ago. It was an open carrier and they could hear each other if needed.

The last time I heard them, was in Peterborough, roughly 4 years ago. They reported 20 minutes out. I am wondering if they are using or had used the VHF for arrival at their main depots and using Cell for the long range comm's and tracking?

I have noticed that most of the VHF antennas are gone, replaced by pucks and UHF enclosures. They seemed to have switched right around the time they took over G4S's long haul service. G4S used secured cell comm's and had discrete UHF channels listed under an old Ontario numbered company, that gave off a "buzz", when they were close by.
