:x What a bonehead! This is why scanners get a bad rap sometimes.I have had a scanner for 20 years and never once had any kind of trouble. Listen and enjoy, but leave it at that. I admit i have gone to take a peek at a fire or 2, but i always remain out of the way and never interfer or blab to the whole world what i herd about so and so down the street

You think that is bad, doesn't it seem strange that the person on this forum that has been constantly asking about Brockville PD has a username of millsdogg_69 and the last name of the freak that was interfering with the Brockville PD and OPP was Cory Mills?

Just wondering if it'd occurred to those engaging in taunts or speculative overload,
that given the nature of this individual, who may well be reading all of this (or
could do so later), it may not be prudent to make a too big deal of this. Nothing
against free speech, and I certainly don't approve of this individual's actions.
Just a suggestion. And if I were him, I'd get a new lawyer.

It's a black eye for scanning, but what could be done? There are laws in
place to deal with it.

Wonder if Mills has any conditions on his probation re: obstruct police, maybe they would like to know that he has been harrasing the users of this forums in a attempt to again listen to the police.

I've had friends of mine ask me if I ever heard them getting into to trouble or the cops were on the way if I'd warn them.

I said NOPE. Sorry.

Then they got pissy at me. Sorry, what can I do.

This is interesting. Sould be a good court case really, it would be nice to hear the end result sooner.

None the less, it only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch, as they say.... sure it may be true in some cases, but not this one. I think that by everyone else behaving themselves with their scanners and other such equipment the hobby will be fine. Sure things like this will happen again :p but for every nut job out there with a scanner who abuses its abilities, there are hundreds if not thousands who use it the way it is supposed to be used.

What gets me is that if you're driving on the 401, its pretty damn hard to hear what people are saying and such across traffic and going 100 kms/h+.. maybe he made a sign.

As for the highbeaming stuff, I cant remember the last time someone did that to me warning me of a speed trap. Ah well.. just my two cents.

Damn kids. ;)

Interesting question Terry, I hope I don't get too cliche-ridden but as they say it will come out in the wash.

I'm not sure I would push the "he's been hasselling us" too far. Surely law enforcement monitors these kind of boards but we generally manage to run a clean ship, with the odd exception. Pushing on one isolated case might give the authorities more justification to go on more "fishing expeditions"; in general alot of these if based on "knee-jerk" could be counter-productive for the majority of us that have nothing to hide, but now and then could be misinterpreted (such as a joke). For all we know, someone in "authority" has alrerady seen this. Sounds like they have enough material evidence that this probably wouldn't strengthen their case anyway.

I would agree that we shouldn't let this get out of hand and just hope it doesn't damage the hobby in any way. He started a lot of threads in the span of a couple months asking different questions mostly related to Brockville PD, when he didn't get the answers he wanted he got quite ignorant with others. You can see all his post here and judge for yourself. Wether millsdogg_69 and Cory Mills are one of the same remains to be seen, It seems too similar to me to think it would be anybody else.

I believe most people who give assistance on these boards do so believing the information is not going to be misused. There's nothing to stop someone from silently monitoring threads, picking up info, and using it improperly.

Said person, if he is who he appears to be, actively sought/got advice from this board. While I don't think anyone here is likely to get in any difficulty over this, an argument could be made that attempts to partially blame the participants. This is a slipperly slope I hope we would not end up on. The info given was not of any particular secret nature that couldn't be found from numerous other sources. But, we all know how defense lines can go, making sometimes absurd arguments and sometimes getting away with them...

I live just outside of the city in the county. I have monitored brockville police for years. They did u DSP for a couple months and then switched over to MCI/time scrambled voice inversion system which is also used in towns in the same viciity such as Gananoque, Perth, and Now Smiths Falls, who was testing on March 18,2004 and now has full operation in that mode. To my understanding the System can be controlled from the testing facility office in Perth and no radio is required to be revamp because it has access to the repeater's and radio system without even being in the area. This has been a gradual process for these towns/cities within the last 2yrs. But u guys are right stuff such as was indicated in the news doesn't help for us hobbiest. Being a responsable scanner user can be fun. Almost makes you wonder why they would require a liscence or certificate for purchasing a Digital Scanner in Canada. Anyways Happy Scanning.

...I say we institute the RadioReference-Millsdogg Legal Defense Fund! Millsdogg needs a quality defense, perhaps Eddie Greenspan or brother Brian.

<digging in pocket> Hmmm...I've got two bits here...

Hopefully they won't ues voice inversion during his trial. Good news is he should be able to monitor their radios on the way to jail.

I have a habit of locking out certain types of comms when out in public or when I've got friends listening. They don't understand why and I've often told them if they are doing anything unlawful and want to know where the poilce are...go buy a radio because they're not going to find out from me.

My friends usually couldn't care about what I'm listening to.

But if something goes on in the area they'll they'll try and ask about it, I just tell them that I was busy and didn't hear it.

If they're here, they're usually telling me to turn the damn thing off or down.
