Just wondering if I am the only one who has a pro 2006 with broken on/off switch. I am the lucky owner of 2 such radios, I bought the second radio because the first radio on/off switch broke and now the second radio on/off switch broke, now I have two of them with the same problem. If this has happened to anyone else I would like to know if you got a replacement switch or how did you resolve the problem, thanks.

I bought one off an auction site and the potentiometer had been replaced. Whomever did that, did a good job.

Two others I have have held up over time.

I suspect the one that had broken was once dropped and the face of the receiver hit the ground, knob first. Appeared like the potentiometer had punched through the face plate circuit board.

Much of the faceplate near the knob was held together with epoxy.

Never had that happen in all 2006s I've owned since 1993.. how does it even break ??
I turned the radio switch on but there was no click like when it turns on, there was nothing. I clipped the wires and routed them up top and attached alligator clip to it to turn the radio on.
The first time it happened I took the switch out and peeled back the tabs removed the the little backplate and a cam like small piece of metal fell out of the switch, the little cam was broken in two. That's about it.

Bad luck indeed, maybe you can find just the face somewhere in the classifieds or trying locally with craiglist or even offerup

Well this morning I decided to take the on/off switch apart, it didn't have the same innards as the first Pro 2006, and nothing that I could see was broken. I gave the switch a bath in Isopropyl Alcohol 99% put it back together and lo and behold it is now back in my Pro 2006 working perfectly as it should. Life is wonderful again, lol.

You can solder the wires together for the attenuator switch and reuse that as the on-off. If you try and pull the power cord it will quickly drain the 9 volt memory battery.

I got it working, soaked it in alcohol put it back together and it worked like normal. From the experience with the first radio I just thought something inside was broken so I was happy that I took it apart to see what the problem was, and didn' t see anything unusual. My next step would have been the attenuator switch but thankfully I didn't have to go that route, I might try it on the other scanner, but thanks for the advice.
