Howdy -
My buddy just gave me a 102" ss whip that he sheared the threads off of. He was ready to throw it out, so I grabbed it thinking i might be able to still use it.

Here's what I was thinking....grind off the last 2 threads that are still on there, and then weld a bolt with the same threads where the old threads used to be.

Would something like that work, or would I not get any reception? And does anyone know what kind of threads are on the 102"?

Yes, I know this is a CB whip, but I figured somebody on here would have and idea....

Thanks in advance.

If it is salvagable, go for it.

What plans do you have for it, CB monitoring ? I can't imagine it is good
for anything else but...

I will probably hook it up to a CB in one of my vehicles. I have heard that these antennas talk pretty good, and the car I have in mind should look pretty good with a 102 flying over it.

SS102

Thats just an old standard 102 in stainless steel whip with 3/8 x 24 thread like all standard mobile antennas. To make it hold you would need to weld it with a good staiinless welding rod. Don't know the current price but Radio shack used to sell the antenna for $15.00. I have cut the top of the rod off to make it work for low band freq's 30 thru50.

Bear in mind, if the shank is 102" long, it is to be used with the 6" spring at the base, for a total (resonant length of 108". If no spring is used, 102" will NOT be optimal for 27 Mhz--maybe the top end of 10 M. T/T
