Brooke County WV new fire frequency

The new Brooke County WV fire frequency is 454.250 MHz. The old frequency of 453.350 MHz has been discontinued in Brooke County as a fire channel.

Why would they go from a Public Safety frequency to a Business frequency? Seems kinda silly to me.

Brooke County Fire Frequency

It seems that Brooke County let the FCC license lapse for the 453.350 MHz channel and must have applied and got another frequency which happened to be 454.250 Mhz which was originally part of the old UHF mobile telephone system. The FCC has done away with all the different classifications of assignments and now has only two - Public Safety and business with certain exceptions such as railroad frequencies for example. Any licensee can be put on virtually any frequency so you will find police and fire radios in the business area and vica versa. For example Brooke School buses have their radios set for the frequency of 461.900 Mhz which was a business frequency under the old FCC band plan.

Correction on last message.

Brooke County School Buses are running on the frequency of 461.925 Mhz and not 461.900 Mhz that I stated.
