An officer with the West Virginia State Police was shot while responding to a domestic dispute on Cross Creek Road.
Brooke County Sheriff John Gruzinskas said the man who shot the state trooper fled into a nearby wooded area.
Police from across the area are searching for the shooter and have called in a SWAT team.
All Brooke County schools are in lockdown.
The trooper is being transported by medical helicopter. There is no word on his condition at this time.
