Hey guys! New to RadioReference and scanning as a whole, so advice would be appreciated!

Can anyone recommend a good scanner to listen to Broward Sheriff's Office transmissions?

Again, help is appreciated..especially in a "Scanning for Dummies" terminology!

you're going to need a "trunking scanner" If you plan to also listen to Hollywood (on the broward county system) you will need to make sure the scanner is capable of listening to digital as well as analog transmission. I use the Radio Shack pro-106. Most people would agree that the king of scanners right now is the Uniden BCD396xt.

Allow me to also answer a common question among new scanner enthusiasts; you cannot monitor the Florida Highway Patrol as their system is encrypted. I believe Orlando PD has also gone encrypted, but not 100% sure about them.
