new TRs

yea I'm a firefighter with brunswick county and i can tell you that it leaves something, manythings to be desired. especially in law enforcement. Because of the new system, it's hard as hell to hear law enforcemnt and it can even be hard to hear other firefighters. and that's before the system is totally operational. the company that emergency mangement and commisioners chose, has only built 2 others and those didnt work!! the company is now bankrupt but they are still using them. Knoy communications of bruswick county was going to a trunked system that did not require us to change radios or pager or any thing but frequencies and only charge 2 millon dollar. his would have been done 3 years ago. this one is still being built. and they are making us turn in our old radio cause the new system only usues ken woods. and we have to get our pagers reprogrammed. and this i costing probably a couple billion a year!! to a bankrupt company

I'm not surprised Brunswick Co is having problems, I'm glad I left when I did. The county never really cared about how well the system worked. They figured if a 110watt mobile could get into the repeater from supply, that was good enough :)

Good Luck.............

supply is only 5 miles as a bird flies to the central tower,i'm with supply and we hit ccom better than bolivia VFD does. now they bought all this land to put up extra towers when all we needed was one or 2 more fire channels on the system we have. the sheriifs depatment has 10 different channels besides dispatch so y can't we?

The basic idea behind a trunked system is to eliminate having to need a "few extra channels".... You take a set of freqs, and with a TRS you use them much more effecintly. You can have many users on fewer freqs.

You can go from having PD with 10 different freqs, FD with 5, SO with 6, EMS with 4, and put everyone on say 10 total freqs with as many talkgroups as they need. Not to mention that there are better security features with a TRS than with a huge conventional system...

Also you want as many tower sites as you can for total coverage.

From looking at the freq variation on this system.. I would almost bet its going to be an LTR type of system, and would even bet Passport. You guys say its gonna be Kenwood specific? Anyone know what mobiles, and HT's are gonna be used?

like i said the county all units, ems, fire, police will be using nothing but kenwoods for mobile and handheld, as far as what model i am not quite for sure the details of it are hazy sometimes.

so.. does anybody have the i'ds for this TRS? cause they haven't even given fire departments the possible freqs just the radio and they don' work half as good as the old maxons. only upper emergency management and county commisioners and FCC seem to know anything about this.

also i have a question about this, is this going to work like a motorola trunked system, Edacs or will it be digital? cause if it is digital, i'm up a tree cause i'm running a pro 96 and an bearcat 10 channel base scanner so any one got any idea of what this system is going to be like ?

If its LTR you will have to monitor conventionally uless you get iether a PRO-92 or a PRO-97, or one of the newer Unidens.

If its any format of Motorola Digital (Except iDen) you will be happy to know that the 96 will eat up this system like a cheeseburger. Since they are gonna run Kenwoods it WON'T be an M/A-Com format of any nature as the only radios that work on M/A-Com systems are- M/A-Com radios.

Most likely this will be LTR of some format. There currently is NO digital format for LTR. If its LTR Standard then you can trunk track it with a LTR capable scanner.... If its LTR Passport, then youll have to monitor conventionally.
