Frederick County is covered by a digital system that requires a P25 capable scanner - PRO-74 is unable to receive their system. However, I believe that the PRO-74 can receive the Frederick County fire dispatch paging channel: 153.845, which gives you something to listen to, but not operations. Town police and county sheriff are also on the digital system.

The link below is the system that you need to follow to get a more comprehensive picture:

Check Uniden and Whistler websites, and look for P25 capable scanners.

So....is there anyway my husband will be able to listen to the Frederick County police on my radio shack pro 74??? Anyway at all??

I let the scanner do it’s thin and have programmed some manually I here a whole lot of fire department, I’m not sure if any of them are police department police I heard someone talking about a marijuana citation...so maybe I already have one for him but thought it would be easy to just enter codes for Brunswick md or Frederick MD police and fire department..

So that being said..if anyone knows any codes or frequency for md state troopers I would greatly appreciate it.. and will my husband even be able to listen to all this with a pro 74??

As Troy and I said, most Frederick County public safety organizations operate on a system that requires a scanner capable of decoding P25 digital signalling, which unfortunately your PRO-74 cannot do. It's confusing for those new to scanning because not only does the scanner need to be able to receive specific frequencies, it also needs to be able track their trunking radio system, and be able to decode the P25 waveform.

A local company may be able to assist you on which scanner to purchase:

http://www.bearcatwarehouse.com/

I would make sure to buy a scanner that is capable of decoding the latest version of P25 signaling know as "Phase 2," which is backwards compatible with the earlier version of P25 signaling know as "Phase 1." Frederick County is currently a Phase 1 system, but as part of the National Capital Region, they may be transitioning to a Phase 2 system in the future. The other determining factor is the state of Maryland is building a Phase 2 system currently, and it's operational in Frederick County now, and in Western Maryland counties in 2018.

That said, your scanner is capable of receiving the dispatch side of the Maryland State Police Frederick barracks *if* they are still using their VHF (low) frequency: 39.400 It's *possible* that you may hear field units if they are very close to you when they transmit. However, they will be transitioning to the state's P25 system in the near future. The state police also have there own talkgroup on the Frederick County system (which again your PRO-74 cannot receive.)

Hope this helps.

As has been said, much of Frederick County and its jurisdictions have gone digital.

Maryland Natural Resources Police can still be heard on 155.36250 & 156.20250 NFM

You may want to check out Jefferson Co. Wv page too.

I know the national park service still has old radios on FM but like everyone else, they are moving to digital.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this update and the title fits perfectly...

Looks like Frederick County just got approved to add an additional frequency to the Brunswick site:

769.34375

It won't matter all that much unless/until that frequency rotates in as a control channel -- but for that reason, someone may want to check/verify it is in use on the site and then submit an update to the RRDB....
