I see over on the FCC Database that Bryan County, has filled for an STA regarding an 800 MHz TRS. Are they planning on becoming part of the Savanah/Chatham TRS, or are they planning to erect their own system? The new license request is for a digital TRS.

It's funny how if all this plays out with all the counties getting systems over the next few years, they need to link up GEWIN. It only makes sense to go that route since the state will never finish it.

it comes down to money, the state wants a statewide 800 system but doesn't want to pay. It is not practical, especially since the majority of the state outside metro areas is rural and most are on VHF.

FYI there is no "GEWIN" trunking system, "GEWIN" was a project to link 911 centers via VoiP (using MotoBrige), why people insist on using this term to call the various independent systems or the UASI system GEWIN is a misnomer and still perplexes me.

See this document, it describes what GEWIN actually is, what it consists of, and the funding used to implement it. Nothing is mentioned about it being a statewide 800MHz trunked radio system. From the FCC website:

Then the label needs to be changed to county then so it'll stop listing everywhere in the state.

I remember seeing somewhere in the Georgia forums mention of Savannah's TRS becoming the hub of a regional system to cover Chatham, Effingham, Bryan and Liberty with link or inclusion of Bulloch. Can anyone else verify? Most metro areas in GA seem to be going to regional systems.

Bryan County TRS - Back to the Subject at Hand...

Ron

Thanks for posting the FCC information; I've been searching for this for several months now with no success, so it must have shown up recently. I've been hearing the control channel active for just about a month now, suspecting that it was the Bryan County TRS but with no solid proof. As seen below, it is now identified:

866.1125 has been active with a control channel for about a month. I don't have the System ID with me, so I'll post it later when I have access to my notes. It is a simulcast system, with one tower in Richmond Hill and one in Pembroke to cover the south and north ends of the county respectively. So far I've not heard any talkgroup activity from either site. As far as it being a part of the Chatham system like Effingham is, it would appear not, because the System ID is different from the Chatham-Effingham sites.

A Change in the Bryan County TRS Already

I found an interesting change in the Bryan County TRS this morning. I've not heard anything on 866.1125 the last couple of days, so I ran a search and came across a 9600 baud control channel on 851.1125. Lo and behold, it has the same System ID that was coming across on 866.1125. I even heard one of the TGs (5008) that I was hearing off of 866.1125.

Running a search on 851.1125, I found that it is licensed to Nextel (expires in 2010):
ULS License - SMR, 806-821/851-866 MHz, Auctioned License - WPQZ778 - NEXTEL LICENSE HOLDINGS 1, INC.

More New Frequencies for Bryan County TRS

I noticed that someone submitted some TGs for the system earlier this week. I'm not able to hear the system well from home, so it is good to know someone else is scanning it and submitting info.

Anyway, here are some more frequencies (which I just submitted to the database):

851.1125 (CC), 852.375, 853.1375, 852.675
