There are two trunked systems I monitor in Buffalo NY, Saia Communications 900 mhz system and the 800 mhz Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority EDAC system. there seems to be a lot of activity on other 800 mhz frequencies I think they belong to other 800 mhz trunked systems in and around the Buffalo NY area. Does any one know what these other trunked systems in the 800 mhz band are and what the setup information is (ie) frequencies, what kind of system and any information on any other trunked systems I can receive in Buffalo NY.

Hi Saint,
I live in northern Erie County, NY. In addition to the 2 systems you mention, I only know of 2 more 800MHz systems. One is Genesee County (Motorola analog). You can get frequency and talk group info at: www.nf2g.com/scannist/ny_gene/2f3c.html
You may need an 800 MHz Yagi beam to pick it up from your location. I live just 2 towns from the county and have a hard time, even with a ferret antenna on a 40 foot tower. The other system is Orleans County on the following frequencies: 851.0375; 851.4875; 851.6875; 851.9375; 852.3875; 852.8375. This is an LTR Multi-net system (analog) so you'll need LTracker software to track it. If you live near the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls, NY they operate a regular LTR system on: 451.9875; 452.200; 461.5125; 461.5875; 461.7125; 463.7875; 464.8375. It is low powered. I have to drive near the casino to hear it. There are 3 other 800 MHz systems which are licensed to Chautauqua and Erie counties and 1 to the town of Hamburg, but these are not in use. Erie is supposed to get a APCO25 digital system sometime. Not sure when. Hope they don't encrypt everything like Niagara Regional did.

Buffalo trunkrd systems

Thanks Lorna68fs for all the information you sent, this is what I was looking for someone in the area that could tell me what trunked systems were active in the area. Can't thank you enough, I will set up the systems in my bc250d scanner and see if I can pull them in hear in Fort Erie. If I can receive any of the trunked systems I will post all talkgroups/id's I find so everyone can use the information.

no, it is not active at this point - but some of it may be part of the new central communications system/lab/training center that is under construction in Buffalo. With all the various 911 centers throughout the county the base station cost will be enormous. this doesn't include all the radios for the sheriff cars, and for all the volunteer fire depts. each will need one of each piece of equipment and at least 3 protables. these are paid for by the dept but installed and maintained by the county fire service. with everyone in budget problems don't look for much unless a grant will cover the entire cost.

The counties that are looking at spending tens of millions of dollars of taxpayer money on new technology should just wait for the NYSWTN to reach their area. Whether they go ahead on their own or wait for the State, a new system would not be effectively usable for 10-15 years anyway.

FM Communications LTR

FM Communications has a LTR system operation on 450 mgz. This system is used by Mercy Flight. Anyone monitor this?

re-ltr system

thanks BTFIRE21, I'm just programming these frequencies into my BC250D scanner to see if I can hear any ltr noise on any of these frequencies and I'll see if I can figure out if any of them are ltr system frequencies.

Just did a search for a control channel that could belong to a LTR System for Mercy Flight and can not find one control channel between 450.00-460-00 mhz so I don't think there is a LTR System in this area of the band.

Standard LTR doesn't have a control channel.

Ok I just started to listen to the frequencies and 451.975 @ 451.700 seem to have that little burst of system info every several seconds, so I guess your right it is an ltr system, I know I have heard Mercy flight on these two frequencies and also 452.300, 453.175 but could never find a ctcss tone for any of these frequencies when listening to them in normal mode, so I will try and figure it out if I can.

A burst every few seconds is indicative of a Passport enhanced LTR system and would not be trunktrackable (for now). A LTR system may have a burst every 10 seconds on channels that are designated a home channel. (Some LTR equipment will not have the audible key up)

HOW TO FIND THE LCN ORDER FOR LTR FREQUENCIES

Hello All,

The Uniden operating guide is no help at all for explaining how to get the LCN order for LTR frequencies. This is how I do it with my Uniden BC780XLT. Take the id number 1-05-220. The 05 in this id means the frequency gets programed on channel 5. The home repeater indicates the channel number placement between 1 and 20.

To do this, one scanner bank must be programed for LTR trunking. Enter the frequency to be checked on one of the channels between 1 and 20. Then press and hold trunk to get the double beep to make it an LTR frequency. Then press trunk again to start the checking process. Wait until a person speaks, and the LTR number will come up if it is LTR, or wait for a repeater confirmation beep of 253--like 0-01-253. This means it gets programed on channel 1. A person must be talking for the id number to come up.

Sometimes, you will see 01, 02, 03, or more. There are frequencies that have no home repeater id's. There is one or more of these on LTR systems. These are hard to place in the proper channel order. There are two ways to do this: The first is to sit and wait for a repeater confirmation beep of 253. It will show up 1-04-025. Program it on channel 4. Sometimes you will see it and not hear the beep. The other way is to program all 20 channels with the frequinecy number and watch for the indicator light where it lights up and remove all the extra ones until the right place is found.

What makes it hard is that conventional users share a trunked LTR frequency too. Don't give up too soon because you don't get the LTR id number the first time you try.

Take care all.

Talkgroup 253 is generally reserved for the Morse Code ID that some systems transmit. There is so much variation in how LTR systems are set up that no rules cover everything out there. I put a file at http://home.hvc.rr.com/bpetrow/ltr.htm that explains the variations and suggests methods for finding the repeater numbers.

Does anyone have any updated info on the Rural/Metro frequencies and which radio system that use? I would like to program them into my scanner.
