Build it yourself single frequency radio project?

Does anyone have a schematic and BOM for a easy to build "retro-like" single frequency VHF receiver? I have some spare platforms (like shown in the video below) that would be fun to put into use this winter on a project that would be fun to play with and even put on display afterwards.

I find this interesting. Though, a cheap scanner would work or used LMR Units would work. They are inexpensive and probably have better sensitivity and selectivity.

Any sort of radio project would be good with me. I still want to put them to good use. I had a lot of fun back when I was a kid with project kits and now as an "old man" the nostalgia bug is biting.
