I have been working with ARC396 Lite for a few hours and find it makes my programing job easy. Gommert did a good job getting this Lite version out so quickly. It made my job easy because I have ARC246 just copy and paste.

Just so the rest know, there is no ARC396 "Lite"... If you pre-order ARC396, you are given access to download a beta version (which, I might add, works fantastically).

How does the preorder download work?
I just submitted mine. Is it automatic or did you have to wait?
Did it come as a link in another email?

You will receive an email with instructions on how to download the beta version, but you will not be able to download the full version until it is released.

Funny. I just copied-n-pasted from ARC780 to BCD396T UASD. Worked just fine.

Is ARC396 Lite free?

ARC396 Lite doesn't exist. I would presume he is referring to the beta version which is accessible only by those who pre-order the full version.

OK. I thought they may have had something out to compete with the UASD. Gee... pay for ARC396T and wait, or just DL UASD. Tough call.

Same here. I've attached a shot of the About screen.

It can use the ARC246 files you already have. just use File, Open System, and select a 246 file.

Why would I pay for ARC396 when BCD396T_UASD is free? I think ARC396 is much more intuitive and easier to use. I would even suggest Uniden license it for 396 owners instead of offering UASD.

what version do you have to order to get the ARC396 lite address in your email? I ordered the $39.95 pre-order or will I have to order the pro pre-order?

The beta is for all customers that pre-ordered, if you ordered from us directly you should have received the email by now, if not contact me by email.
if you ordered at ScannerMaster site there could be a delay, forward us a copy of the invoice and we email details.

If you tried it, you might change your mind.
I can't complain about the Uniden program. It's great and the fact it's free is incredible.
If you are going to be programming alot then the ARC is the absolute way to go. It's setup alot like Motorola CPS and more like the stuff used to program the Thales portables. It's an easy way to see everthing all at once.

Software

Bottom line any software to program these scanners are good. I myself have found them to be tedious to program by hand. I have the arc250 for my scanners and the freeware from uniden, which for free is a good program. I guess todays business industry can't please everybody all the time. I myself have witnessed this in my career.
