butel has announced its plan to release arc246t to the public tomorrow (wed jan 26). to all my fellow 246t owners (sorry paul), but this is a must have. i recieved the beta version and its incredible.

No need to apologize to me. You know, if I didn't want competing software out there I wouldn't have fought so hard to release the programming specifications.

Congrats to Gommert and the gang at Butel. I'm sure their product will be very fine. Now, if I can just clear QA with our "final" release this week, we'll have a horse race.

Setting aside the PC control aspects (I rarely houl my PC around while scanning), why is it so much better than the UASD?

just my opinion... but i like webcather the most. i do have to give paul props on one thing that USAD has over ARC... ARC doesnt allow you to change the welcome screen (at least, as far as im aware). dont get me wrong, USAD is a fine product. i guess im just used to using BUTEL product.

OK. I just thought there was a slew of reasons that make it a 'must have'. I have the UASD, and it seems to program my scanner fine, and that's all I need/use the SW for. Also, I know the frequencies in my area, so the webcatcher isn't a big deal for me. While web pages are generally useful, I never rely on them exclusively. I've seen too many with errors. I guess for the newbie, they may be useful, but then again, with people sharing the files, there really isn't as much need for the web page info anymore - just DL a file for the scanner in question (that goes for any of them).

http://www.butel.nl/ go to the arc246t software page and click "buy now". they do accept money orders/checks. email kagi (the company that deals with the payments) for more info on how to do this.

this i can only guess at, since i used a credit card to pay for my order. guess is just the CD. a suggestion though. i believe kagi said 2-3 weeks for order to process if you pay by check or money order. do you have a checking account? if so, do you have a "check card" of some sort? most banks (if not, all by now) have a CC logo on the check cards. you can use that check card as a credit card to pay for your order. if you do not have a check card, email kagi for more info on paying by money order.

i dont believe it costs anything to download ARC246T. it DOES cost to use it to full funtionality. if you dont pay for it, it will be running in demo mode. not sure how long it takes on 56k, i run a cable.

definately worth 10 bucks more! No comparison between the two. ARC246 software is the best of the two. In my opinion.
