Just got my 246, no thanks to the Undeliverable Parcel Service. Brown definately stank again. UPS bashing aside, I downloaded the Butel backup software and it does not seem to be working for me.

I followed the on screen instructions. Verified my com port, even changed it to make sure. Results are the same. nothing seems to be happening. I'd like to back up the preloaded systems before I start loading the local area.

Has anyone had any luck, seems that I saw some results, so any advice would be welcome.

Yes, I am using a "real" serial port, though I tried to use my USB adapter.

Many thanks.

At http://groups.yahoo.com/group/arc250785/message/619, Gommert has this note:

Some customers have reported problems/error messages when trying to
run the software.
We did find a problem in the installer software and therefor we have
uploaded a new installer. The software itself has not changed.
If the software works fine, there is no reason to use the new
installer.

york system

NOt that I have heard. The test bed will be in James City County which is a bit far for my system (near Tabb) to pick it up. I was going to head up there with the new toy today and see if I heard anything. THey are supposed to be testing.

Thanks for the info on the Butel software. The install seems to have worked fine, just can't get the system to recognize the actions. Oh well, I'll figure it out or I'll get a copy from someone some other time.

I suggest to re-install first using the latest installer software.
(zip is called clone246_setup2.zip , this way all required files are installed and registered)

Make sure you follow the instructions given by the software when you start a backup. The scanner must be set to 'clone master' but the software tells you how to do this.

Finally

well, I finally got the software to work. Seems to be a part operator error and part missing step in the on screen instructions.

Had I "REALLY" read the on screen display, it would have hit me that I did not have the final screen for data transfer. The process is Menu and rotate to Xfer Information. Then "E" and rotate to "clone", "E" again and the display will say

"Clone
Master"

And this is where I got confused. The instructions say the screen should read

"Clone Master
Press SCAN key"

I thought the "Press SCAN key" was an instruction, which with the next instruction did not make sense. In order to get from the

"Clone
Master"

screen to the

"Clone Master
Press SCAN key"

one has to press "E" one more time. Then click the OK button on the instruction panel, and press then PRESS the SCAN key.

Were I still doing technical manual verification for the Air Force, I'd send this procedure back to be reauthored. :) At least I figured it out and now I can clear my scanners memory and start programming.
