Just wanted to whine about dropping my scanner while getting out of the car Sunday night. It literally went in an instant from receiving everything under the sun to getting nothing but a burst of static every second. Wiggled this and that, pulled battery, no dice. Printed the repairs paperwork off Uniden's site and shipped it out this morning. Don't mind the cost but the turnaround will be painful. It's back to the SDR dongle for a while for Mr Butterfingers!

It was a SDS100 and it was pretty bad, dropped from 3 feet onto concrete and while still warm from being used. No screen damage and the menus and everything worked, just probably jarred the SDR chip too hard. I'm guessing the chip has a tiny onboard crystal that understandably can only take so much shock. I've actually dropped it once before getting out of my Yaris, about 1-2 feet, and it was fine. This time it was my 4runner which sits much higher. And yes, I'll need to address this problem I have of getting out of the vehicle and dropping the scanner

I feel ya - I'm really bad with stuff like that too. I bought an iPhone 4 the day it was made available on Verizon, and proceeded to drop it on my tile floor about 2 minutes after the box arrived . Did the same thing with a Sony Wavehawk scanner I bought 20 years ago too, had it on my lap in the car, and let it fall to the concrete after I parked and stepped out of the door. Fortunately that only shook the speaker loose and I was able to secure that back in place.

Now that you mention it, I've knocked it off the coffee table onto the tile floor a couple of times too. It's a pretty durable unit considering how many times I've fumbled it. I'll take the repair time to come up with something involving the lanyard, which I never attached because "who needs that".

She's back!! Working as good as new and maybe because I was honest on the cause of the issue when I filled out the form, let's just say Uniden was very kind!

Good deal! Get some camera grip tape and apply it to the sides and back of the battery cover. Makes it much more secure.
