My neighbor, who loves listening to my scanner when she comes over, is asking for my advice on which scanner to buy. Although both my scanners have trunk capability, we don't need it in our area.

:?: If I had $200, which handheld scanner should I buy if I wanted a non-trunk model that supports CTCSS, alpha tagging and PC connectivity? Is such a unit made? :?:

I promised to set it up for her because she has no interest in the "technical stuff".

Sportcat 200. I think it was recently discontinued and replaced by the SC 230. If you can find a Sportcat 200, it should sell for ~$100.00 or so if in very good condition. As I recall, it sold for ~$180 when new. A very fine scanner that will perform all of the tasks you mentioned. I wish I had never sold mine. :(

I have to agree with you. I just returned my BC 246T because it was not as sensitive as he PRO-95. I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't support CTCSS, but you can't have everything, right? My neighbor's picking one up at this price tomorrow. By the way, that sale ends on November 29th, for others who are considering a PRO-95.

On a separate note...
In the RR Tavern, I asked if anyone knows where I could find a cheap scanner stand. I answered my own question; I am using a little wood holder that my table coasters come in. It fits perfectly and provides an excellent viewing angle of the display.
