Buying a scanner help!!!!!!!!!

I am in the process of buying a scanner radio, but have no idea what to buy. I live in newport NC and would like to catch the military aircraft as well as the local fire/police, etc... Any suggestions? I am not up to date on the whole trunking thing!! How do I know what to get for the area I live in?

Best bet is to hit the NC forum and see what type of system you have in your area. If it is a standard system (read not digital or trunked) than any of the lower priced scanner will do for you. If however it is trunked you will need to look at getting a compatible scanner to pick up your area.
