Buying from Uniden

I need clarification on something. I want to buy the SDS 100 and the DMR upgrade from Uniden directly. Am I correct that I have to order the scanner, wait for it to arrive, go back to Uniden and make ANOTHER PURCHASE just to get the DMR upgrade key?

Does anyone know the cost of the DMR upgrade from Uniden, or is that top secret until I buy the scanner as well?

I cannot find any way to add the DMR upgrade to my order.

Are they seriously so inept that they can't do both at the same time?

4. Buy the upgrades you want thru the my uniden site. You're keys will be generated add the keys you are sent to the scanner in the upgrade menu.

That makes sense, but I want to know the price of the upgrades BEFORE I spend that much money on the scanner.

I am pretty sure it is 60 for DMR and 60 for NXDN but I could be wrong on that long day. I am sure someone will chime in. I just don't remember at the moment.

Scanner Master will sell you one with the upgrades installed but it will cost more. Cheaper to get the scanner and then get the upgrades from Uniden directly.

If you buy the scanner from a dealer, such as ScannerMaster (among others), they can do the DMR, ProVoice, or NXDN upgrade for you. However, most dealers are charging $75 for an upgrade that would cost you $50 (ProVoice) or $60 (DMR or NXDN). Once you receive the scanner, as noted above, register it on MyUniden, then you can purchase whichever upgrade you want. Other than making sure that the scanner's firmware is updated, which you can do via Sentinel, the only thing that needs to be done to apply the upgrade, after purchase, is entering the key your purchase will generate. You can get any of those three upgrades for the SDS100 or the 436/536HP series. If, instead, you go with either the 325P2 or 996P2, you can get ProVoice or DMR only; NXDN is not available for those two.


Unless you have a ProVoice system in your area, or an area that you visit or travel through regularly (whether traveling for business, to visit friends, relatives, or vacation), you may want to pass on ProVoice. Most ProVoice systems are, or will be, changing to a different format; most that I've seen moved to P25, either Phase I or Phase II, which requires no upgrade for your scanner.
