I have been able to access the scanner feeds at work for months.
I come in to work today and can't even click through on the Live Audio link on the RR page, let alone get to my feed through a bookmark.

My company has a filter on streaming media. Haven't been able to access Youtube or any streaming video on sites like CNN or MSNBC for 6 months.

However, we can still use Pandora...makes no sense.

Anywho, is there any way around this issue?
How does the filtering agent (Websense) recognize sites as having streaming media?

Not much sense in keeping my feed if I can't access it.
Thanks

As a professional network administrator, I can tell you that the Websense system is one of the most advanced in the world and getting around it will be tough... Your company does this because the network administrator does not want streaming media clogging up the company's bandwidth, which is very very expensive. If you know who the admin is you could just ask him if it is OK but other than that I'm not really sure how you would get around it...

In terms of how Websense knows, there are two possibilities:
1. Websense themselves maintains a list of websites and breaks them down into categories (phishing, porn, games, etc).
2. Your network administrator viewed the websense logs and saw a stream coming from RR and manually did the block. It looks like this is what happened in your situation. Can you get to any part of RR from work?

BTW, I know nothing about breaking past websense because I *am* the admin at my company and know the override info... :D

Two choices.
1) As Bezking said, ask. Your company may even have a procedure in place for exceptions.
>>>>>>> Be readt to explain; a) Its low bandwidth, b) It's neeeded for work or c) It does not interfere with work,
OR,
2) Get back to work. :)

As a net admin my self websense is extremly easy to get through, just do some reading on the subject! BUT on the other hand be warned, that if your employer catches you you can loose your job!

Why not just get a laptop with an air card or wireless connection this way your off your employers network and have nothing to worry about!

In these tough times its best to just not surf around on the internet and just stick to work related things I see it here at my place, one wrong click and your up the road!

Good Luck

I can access the RR website including forums.
However, can't get to any of the audio links without the "streaming media" filter popping up.

Wish I could bring a laptop, but no wireless at our workplace (security issue you know...you would think I work for the CIA).

I think the filter was most likely manual do to the fact it worked for a month.
