I wonder how loud they will be? the C-130s are big enough. I think I had to go home and change my pants when I saw the first one when I was on my way home a few years ago.

The air guard had one fly into Martinsburg airport in 2005 for noise tests etc. I work in a building that is located under the final approach to runway 26 and was there when the C5 flew over. The noise was louder than the 130's but the main thing I noticed was increased vibration. Seemed like the entire building shook!

Some people get very happy about a over 40 year old transport designed cargo plane. I think some people are confusing the C-17 capabilities with the C-5 also. The C-5 doesn't have STOL capabilities. The C-17 Globemaster is the one that can take off and land in 2500 feet. The C-5 Galaxy requires at least 4500 feet, plus a runway that can withstand up to 400 tons landing on it.

ps, a C-5 Galaxy is bigger then a 747.

a c-5 with proper crew can take off and land within 2500. also they can land on unapproved airfields... been there done that. peolpe just don't like to hear about it... so it makes the 17 look better... later

That had nothing to do with runway length. They lost an engine...
