• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I asked to gain MORE knowledge than what I already have. There are many experienced persons on here with more experience than just scanner operations. Take your negativity elsewhere. Thank you.

I know HOW it is set up but I wanted to know more of why it could be set up this way.

Yawn...put it back in your pants
Right, Mr. "what do I know. I only do it for a living."

(I am sure you did all this using hobbyist tools like DSD+ and your $15 dongle...I mean, who needs an R8000 or 2975, GenWatch? Why buy that when Unitrunker can do all that and more:roll:)
Hm, when TRUNK88 started screaming about eight channels with simultaneous TIB failures at 11pm, the boss didn't head to the office to check System Watch, instead he headed straight to the site, but you do what you want. And then there's System Watch's tendency to identify the wrong radio when two subscribers key up simultaneously, but TRUNK88 gets it right, but again, you use the "professional" gear, even if it gets things wrong.

Stop with the penis measuring contest. I just want to know what the biggest difference is for C4FM and CQPSK that they would make a non-simulcast, non-TRS system set up as CQPSK instead of C4FM.
Have you determined if the repeaters are actually transmitting CQPSK?

I did read where someone said subscriber units ALWAYS transmit in C4FM. Is this true?
Of course. CQPSK is for simulcast signals. Subscribers don't simulcast.

If so what is the option selector for? Decoding?
Correct.

That's why most of us use GenWatch 3, System Watch is garbage and always has been. Site Lens wasn't much better.

but again, you use the "professional" gear, even if it gets things wrong.

Use the wrong or outdated tool and that's what can happen. But whatever works and helps you sleep at night.

This is why you should reach out to who designed and built the system. Anything else is just guessing.

If you are going to be managing subscribers on this, or anything related to this system infrastructure wise, it is only logical to try and do as much research on it as possible. Site visits sometimes yield three ring binders full of factory build sheets, logs, etc. Sometimes you'll be very surprised how much is there.

It would be well worth your time and you might get some answers you seek.

Since your preferred solution didn't exist at the time, your comments are pointless. And I guess I'd better not mention the six copies of Treport that the boss set up - not sure if you can handle that either.

Yawn...who cares.

The O/P hopefully will get the answers he seeks by either contacting those who built out/implemented the system, or visit the site(s) and find those three ring binder that usually get left lying around.

Or he can dicker around with playing "what is behind door number one" asking questions on a hobbyist forum.

Thank you, everyone, for the input. I doubt I'll ever be privied to a site visit or will I get an answer back from the radio personnel who designed the system. They've been less than willing to work with anyone and get angry when people tell them the radios or pagers were not programmed correctly as requested and throws a fit when asked to fix them.

The biggest question you should be asking yourself is...Why am I on Radio Reference asking this question.

This is a scanner hobby site, not a site to ask real questions about Public Safety radio systems

If you don't know why or how the system was/is set up you should not be touching the radios at all, yes even if the company messed up a scan list.

AWESOME! Harumph

If the contractor did not program your radios correctly, withhold payment until they do. Dig out the acceptance terms in your agreement. Is there a penalty for late delivery? Charge the penalty until they've delivered.
