Been listening

I have been listening (and recording it) on the TRS Kent TG's since just about the first units going on location. From the looks of it on TV and the reports on injuries, it seems that most of the crew was pretty damned lucky. Reports from the scene indicated that at least 2 on the flightdeck suffered serious head injuries, but most everyone else of the 17 souls onboard was minor injuries. Keeping those seriously injured in my thoughts, and hoping for speedy recoverys.

If I can don't know how....

I freely admit that my computer is way smarter than I am, I really don't know how to share it. The audio was captured with "xcorder" and is contained in 4 separate WAV files (new on created every hour). They are raw as recieved, I don't edit, I just record for my own consumption and really don't save any long term. Some of the comms are scratchy and lapse into digital noise a few times and contain short segments of other traffic on DE's system as I didn't want to start fumbling around trying to lock out other sub-banks and screw up or miss traffic. The total size is 23.26MB adding up the 4 files sizes.

Written report also......

If interested, I also posted a running report as I was monitoring. Check the forums under the Delaware header at www.firerescuenews.com
I was also busy getting my son up and on his way to school at the same time so it is less than complete or continuous, but it does cover some details the networks didn't have early on.

Does anyone know what the cause of the crash was? From the looks of the plane, the crew was very lucky.

From the news reports and other info, it looks like they lost their #2 engine on takeoff. They then declared an emergency and started dumping fuel. They attempted to make it back to the crosswind runday at Dover (36), and hit the ground about a half mile short. The plane slid quite a distance before a wing dug in and it started rotating to the right. The tail sheared off about 1/4 mile from the final resting place of the fuselage. The entire nose, from about the end of the crew rest area forward also sheared off and came to rest at about a 90 degree angle to the rest of the fuselage. The left outboard engine also departed its mount and ended up next to the nose section.

And that's about all I know.

Early theory is birds got sucked up in one or more engines.Aircraft was 436th Dover C-5B tail #84-0059.
I caught some TV/photo choppers hovering in area on Dover appch 132.4250.They were making them stay at 3000 feet minimum.Made it tough to get good aerial photos with hazy weather also.
Very lucky crew and pax.

There has been a lot of discussion about a trash transfer company in the area of one of the runways. The Base wanted them closed but others were against it, I think for economic reasons. The results should be interesting.
