We got a submission a while back with an updated talkgroup list for the CA Medical Facility/CA State Prison Solano system in Motorola Type II format, however the submitter did not state the system type and has not answered my request to clarify. The updated talkgroup list appears to be:

CA Medical Facility - 1616

Facility 1 - 6448

Facility 2 - 6480

Facility 3 - 6512

Facility 4 - 6544

Central Services - 6416

Culinary - 6576

Control - 7985

Industries - 6672

Tactical 1 - 6800 Used mostly for training

Tactical 2 - 6832 Not used often

Watch Commander - 6608 I believe this is a private comm channel
for facility lieutenants in case of incidents

I know CA Dept of Corrections was in the process of changing all their systems to Type II a while back, but Type I can also masquerade as bad Type II talkgroups if you're not careful. Before I go changing the DB and erasing all the existing talkgroups and fleetmap, would anyone in the Solano county area mind firing up their scanner and confirming the change?

For my education, how do I tell the difference?

I wonder if the HP-1 data tools would help?

When I get home, I'll look and see if I have a recent Trunker file

Additionally, check the submission history. A submission says it was upgraded to a type II system in July 07.

It was already listed as a type II system. What do you mean?

When I clicked on the link to the system yesterday to look at it, it said Motorola Type I. It had the following fleetmap (which can only exist on a Type I or Hybrid Type I/Type II system):

Fleet Map E1P3 or DDDDDDLL or S4 S4 S4 S4 S4 S4 S12 S12

And the talkgroups were in the following format (rather than the standard decimal Type II format):

000-2 Supervisors / Watch Commanders
400-2 Watch Towers
400-4 Housing
400-6 Medical?
400-7 Security
400-8 Security
400-9 Security
400-10 Facilities
400-11 Security

That three digit dash two digit talkgroup ID format is only possible on Type I systems with that fleetmap I quoted. It looks like it got switched from Type I to Type II yesterday, because the fleetmap is gone, but now all the talkgroups read "0." This happens because there is no correlation between the three digit-two digit type I talkgroup IDs and the regular type II talkgroup IDs. I've got it all sorted out now, thanks for the help!

The control channels sound slightly different. In the database, the talkgroup ID format will be different (like the ones quoted above) and there will be a fleetmap table. If you try and scan a type I system as type II, the scanner won't track the talkgroups properly so you'll see a bunch of different talkgroups alternate on screen for the same conversation. My original worry was our submitter may not have known the difference and simply jotted down a bunch of talkgroups (which may have all only belonged to a couple Type I channels), which is why I asked the question. With so few of these systems left you probably won't need to know the difference much longer.

When I first looked at it after I read your post, it was a type iie, I changed it to type ii after our discussion.
