I have Simplecast (v2) and I need a cable to connect my scanner to my PC. Can you tell me exactly what kind of cable I need to buy in order to stream my scanner over the Internet using Simplecast (v2)?

I bought the one Mule recommended; I don't see two ports on my PC that would accomodate the two pins you recommend.

I have two sound cards, a Realtek AC97 Audio and a Edirol M-100FX; the Edirol M-100FX sound card is the default sound card currently and it is used to stream talk.

I am unable to configure the Realtek AC97 Audio sound card to stream my police scanner; when I connected my scanner to my PC using the cable Mule recommended Windows does not recognize it.

Any ideas how to make these two sound cards work simultaneously?

Hi..I don't know how your scanner is as I use the BCT15 and it has a Record plug on the back of it, so I use this plug from RadioShack.. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102949&cp and just plug it into the line-in or the Microphone input. I have two scanners setup this way and they work the way they should. I don't think you need expensive sound cards as you're not doing CD sound quality. To use the cables they recommend you need sound cards that have that type of setup and most computers don't. Mule is correct but that cable he said won't work with mine as the sound card is stereo and my one scanner output is mono so I had to buy an adapter, but with the BCT15 I use the one I said. Find out if yours setup is stereo or mono and then plug one end of the cable into the scanners output or headphone jack and the other end into the sound cards line-in or microphone jack and it should work..Cheers..Keithmj

If you want to run two scanners, or one scanner and some other audio source using Simplecast and both audio cards simultaneously, you'll need to have two copies of SimpleCast running. If Windows does not recognise your second audio card, then it is not installed properly.

Thank you for your replies.

Let me describe my hardware/software configuration a bit more:

I am running Windows XP on an HP PC.

I have an Edirol M-100FX Mixer connected to my PC and the Edirol M-100FX is connected to an Innkeeper 1x Digital Hybrid. Running SAM Broadcaster on my PC I can stream music/talk via this config and I'm able to take and broadcast telephone calls (with the Innkeeper).

A couple of days ago I installed SimpleCast and configured an additional stream. I have successfully configured the stream/encoder in SimpleCast.

I spoke with an Edirol M-100FX technical rep yesterday and he explained how to connect my scanner to my Mixer. I went to Radio Shack and bought the cable and connected the 1/8" cable to the REC out jack on the scanner and then connected the 1/4" cable to my Mixer but still no sound.

Any ideas?

Hi..You said.."connected the 1/4" cable to my Mixer but still no sound". To what plug did you connect this to? Should be a line-in. How do you have your speakers setup? Mixer should have line-out to go to your computer. Can you get it to work without the mixer? Cheers..Keithmj

Line 3/4 R. See http://www.edirol.net/products/en/M-100FX/specs.html.

Should be a line-in.

I am pretty sure it is a line-in but I'm not certain.

How do you have your speakers setup?

The only sound I hear comes from my headphones which are connected to my Mixer. My computer's speakers are completely mute.

Mixer should have line-out to go to your computer.

My Mixer is connected to my PC via a USB cable.

Can you get it to work without the mixer?

No. My computer sound is all pointed to the Edirol M-100FX which I think is an external sound card.

Try using the headphone or speaker output from the scanner, not the record out.

When you "Config" Simplecast you have to choose which soundcard to use. If only one of your sound cards is available from the drop down box (and you said you had installed a second sound card) Windows is not recognising the second card for some reason. Make sure the card is seated properly on the mother board. Reinstall the drivers.

Double click the Volume Icon bottom right of your screen to get the Volume Control window. Select Options then Properties and make sure both soundcards are available from the drop down box, and that all the settings are correct for your set-up. It may be something as simple as volume set to zero for the mic-in level, or line-in level, or whichever input you are using.

That's my suggestion.

Funny thing though; when I speak into my microphone on my headset which is plugged into my Mixer, my voice is broadcast via SimpleCast to my scanner stream.

How do I mute the microphone?
