Still working to get my Syntor X 9000 programming set up working. I am still getting serial errors when attempting to read the radio.

I have heard of a program called "cache off" referenced quite a bit with running older programs to slow down the computer. If anyone has the program I would greatly appreciate it. I would much rather get it from one of you guys instead of downloading it from who knows were from the internet.

(Cache off is not a Motorola software and is not protected by Motorola. I am not asking for programming software. Dont take this down)

Back to the basics. What kind of computer are you using? If it's much newer than a Pentium class machine, your odds of success are low.

1998 IBM Thinkpad 380. I can get the program to run but it will not read to radio. I understand I MAY need an older computer, but if using a simple program can get it to work, that's what I want to try before buying a whole other computer.

That's a Pentium or PII class machine. I would not expect it to be appropriate for DOS RSS applications. Maybe if booted into DOS, it might, but I'd let the results speak for themselves.

The old DOS RSS software was engineered around the presumption that the PC being used would incorporate the old 8250 UART chip. Newer PCs used the 16550 UART which is completely different. An ideal DOS RSS programming PC will have the 8250.

Yes, it does boot to DOS. If I could get help disabling cache and at lease trying it, I would be fine with looking for a new machine if it doesn't work.

CACHEOFF and the mate CACHEON didn't work for me on Syntor-X-9000, or RADMBL or M400 and a few others.
MOSLO on the other hand works fine.
If you can get into the BIOS on startup, Sometimes that is by tapping F3 or some other key while booting up, you can get to the
BIOS setup pages and disable CACHEing.
Booting to the DOS any later than WIN95 is not true DOS.
For example going to the DOS command line in WinXP, is still WinXP, but in a DOS Shell.
You REALLY want DOS 6.22 or at least WIN95 which is actually DOS 7.

Save and archive your first successful radio and control head codeplug reads in case you need to refresh the radio or control head.

I would be interested to try this! I am admittingly not really a computer guy, the USB DOS set up would be new to me.
