• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a long shot, but does anyone have a CAD drawing file for the oval face plate of a CDM series mobile? I prefer it to be in .dxf or .dwg file, but beggars can't be choosers. I need it to mill out two holes in a 2U rack panel blank.

Thanks!

Jason,

I have a console plate for either a Jotto Desk or a Havis automotive console system for the CDM. I can trace it out on paper and shoot it to you as a .pdf or .jpg if you like.

FWIW, the radio sits a tiny bit loose in the face plate so I suspect that they want the installer to use some edge grommeting to make a snug but not too tight fit that won't rattle about in a car or truck. It's at least about a sixteenth of an inch larger all around.

Steve, thanks! I might take you up on that. When I was a Moto tech, we used to get those Havis console inserts, cut out the panel and then bolt in the Havis insert. It was a perfect bracket to rack mount a CDM and it looked good too. I have actually been through THREE different Havis vendors to buy these inserts. Two told me they could not quote me. One actually took my money and then I had to force them to refund after six weeks and nothing showed in the mail.

I would rather get the brackets, if I can find a vendor that can quote me, take my money and actually deliver the parts. As a last resort, I was hoping to either find a CAD file or draw up a CAD file so I could mill the panel on my CNC. It won't look as nice, but it's better than trying to hack it up.

It sucks not being in the industry anymore, I have no connections left :(

Now I just have this crappy NASA job :D

There's a seller on Ebay that sells dual rack mounts for the CDM's - $89.95 plus $15.50 for shipping.

There's also a single Jotto Desk one right now on Ebay.

Steve, thanks! Yep, I saw that dual mount panel on eBay and I am still considering it. I was just hoping that I could build it myself for less. About $10 for the panel and the price I WAS quoted on the Havis inserts was only $22 each. Just putting me over the $50 mark for the project.

I guess I need to decide if the extra work is worth saving the money...
