05:05 MDT - 01 Command reports knockdown of Stock Exchange building, which appears to be the one that was involved in fire. Other exposures suffering smoke infiltration, which is being ventilated now. Patients have been rescued from the Stock Exchange building.

AM 770 CHQR's 5:00 am news broadcast included a report from a CHQR staff member on scene who indicated the fire was burning most fiercely in the alley behind the building immediately as he drove past.

CFD reports that this fire originated in a vehicle that was parked at the loading dock of the Petroleum Club. The 'explosion' can likely be attributed to the vehicle's tires popping, etc.

One security guard was able to self-evacuate the first floor of the Petroleum Club, and a baker working on the 2nd floor was rescued by fire crews via ladder. The baker suffered smoke inhalation and was treated by EMS.

There was damage to the building on the first and second floors in the vicinity of the loading dock. Reports indicate a storage area above the loading dock, filled with Christmas decorations, was well involved with fire.

In addition to the earlier apparatus summary, there were three hazmat units at scene, as part of the first alarm building fire response and the explosion response.

Petroleum Club blaze is arson

Police say a recent fire at the Calgary Petroleum Club was deliberately set.

Suveillance video recorded someone leaving the loading dock of the club shortly before the blaze broke out.

Two people were in the building at the time. A security guard managed to get out on his own but a baker had to be rescued from a second storey window and was treated for smoke inhalation.

The suspect is described as a dark skinned male in his mid-30s with a ponytail.

Damage from the fire is estimated at 400 thousand dollars.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
