Hi Guys,
Well, finally bit the bullet, and got myself a brand spanking new BC296D.

Now only one slight problem... this thing is a beast of a learning curve :)

I've been able to get the convential scanning working, and am looking at tuning into Calgary APCO25 frequencies.
Has anyone of you done this before? I've looked though the RR DB, and can find the talkgroup ID's, etc, but no control channel frequency for the calgary police.
How does this work, and which frequency should I use?

Thanks!

Hi Potjok,

What I've done is I've programmed the Fish Creek site into my scanner, (setting it on trunk then selecting motorola type II also to set up the bank for monitoring this system ).

Each site has its own main control channel indicated in the RR database as the red or blue frequencies with a * next to them, red being the usual control channel, and blue being the alternate frequency that temporarily changes to from time to time. Reception of the control channel depends on how close the site is to you as I've said I have Fish Creek programmed because I'm in the south end of the city and I get the best reception with that site, If I went up to the airport for instance, then I'd switch to the frequencies at that site because the control channel for the south would most likely be out of good receiving range

So, I hope this has helped you. If you have anymore questions just ask.

Happy Scanning! 8)

Well... I completely forgot about leaving the post here... but I ended up figuring it out.

The key point for me was the "CTRL CH ONLY' option. I programmed in the TransAlta control channel, and it works like a charm. The ID for district 7 doesn't seem to be correct anymore though... or my area is just too boring to listen to.
I can receive both TransAlta and Banker's Hall. Which would be the best in the NW though?

I appreciate the information everyone has been giving here...but I am still having issues??? It very well may be my scanner's capabilities (BC246T), but I have used the "ARC246" program to enter all of the information from here http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=204 and then entered the primary and alternate channels for the airport (where I am). I have the scanner set to Motorola Type 2 standard 800mhz and I can only hear a machine gun like sound or nothing? Am I doing something very wrong or am I not capable of receiving voice transmissions? Thank you for any help...Is their a site that offers cloned frequencies (set up properly) for calgary?

The Calgary Police is all Digital. That is the reason for the machine gun like sound you are hearing on the scanner. You will have to lock out all tg's that pop up with that sound.
