I was in Sacramento over the past few days and I noticed that the Gold "patch" to both CRIS and the 7CHP IF/7CHP AIR/7CHP GGB channel was on and off even in the early morning hours.
What makes you think the 7CHP channels are on CRIS? Another talkgroup other than 861 maybe? That's where I've been hearing all the Gold traffic so far...No 7CHP channels. Although Air21 has come up on the Gold but that's normal.

CRIS is probably like most new P25 trunked systems in that you won't hear TG traffic on a particular site unless there is a radio user associated with it.
Radio traffic is not endlessly broadcasted across the system unless a user on that site desires the specific TG.

Well duh...Most Astro25 cores are setup that way.

Sorry LAflyer and Frank but I don’t think you guys really know what the system is doing or will do. Yesterday I went to San Francisco i80 from Sacramento and had the new 861TG with CHP Gold-3 The whole way there.

I drove back from WA State via I5 yesterday and started receiving traffic on "Base 12" (774.01825) about Redding. At first I thought it was just "local CHP" but they were giving downtown Sacramento locations. I wish I knew what tower(s) the traffic was coming from.

I think you mean 774.08125. 774.01825 isn't a valid NorCal frequency. :sneaky::LOL: FWIW, that is a Voice Channel for Mt. Oso and Oat Mountain on CRIS...Could be for a few other sites too but that needs discovery.

774.08125 is CHP Base 12. My guess is you were receiving CHP Redding Dispatch which dispatches for the officers providing security at state buildings (former State Police), after hours. They may have been linked to the Capitol.

No neighbors, like all the other sites I can hear.

It's rather weak here and co-channel with Santiago, so I'd be guessing the Santa Barbara area. The high-level sites CA has licensed are on La Cumbre Peak and Santa Ynez Peak, so it's probably one of the two. Coverage on the 101 north of Las Cruces would differentiate the two sites, as that's where SYP obstructs LCP. Other locations are certainly possible, so go check if you can hear it!

You have my attention. I'll try looking into this. I don't think that's one of the Southfork CRIS voice freqs, and the sites up here are still standalone, not linked yet. It also doesn't match the 700's that I have for our area CHP, but plenty of options for them to go to where I'm not normally listening. CHP Redding dispatch is right on I5 north of Redding.

Correct about the channel & frequency. I scan all of these channels when anywhere in the state. You never know what's going to be active. At first I too expected this was from Redding (or even Chico) dispatch, but the call addresses were clearly for locations in downtown Sacramento.

This is really OT for this thread but I saw someone mentioning CHP traffic on another frequency from between Sacramento and the Bay Area. It seems there's a lot of places (in the spectrum) we can hear CHP radio traffic, not just low band VHF.

They are (have been) using 773.33125 (the 7CHP IF/7CHP AIR/7CHP GGB frequency) to rebroadcast the Gold Valley traffic off Pine Hill for a while now (at least a year, maybe longer). What has been noticed lately is that when Gold Valley is not being heard on 773.33125 it is being heard on CRIS TG:861 and when it is not being head on 861 it is being heard on 773.33125 or not at all (except on low band). The reasons/cause for this are unknown.

Did you happen to get a NAC, that could help narrow the sites down.

From my observations while I was out in California last week TG:861 was playing on EVERY site I heard, from the bay area all the way to the Sierra mountains so it's not out of the realm to think that it's playing on every/most sites in the state, or at least northern California.

774.08125 (what is/was officially labeled as 7CHP12) has been seen as a voice channel on CRIS sites so I'm sure that's what you were hearing as well.

Oh, that's the issue, I don't hear Pine Hill from my location! So I wouldn't know what it's doing!

From known data, this is the current reuse of the 7CHP channels that are now part of the CRIS trunking system. This migration of the 7CHP channels would tend to lead ME to thinking that CHP is going to be a major user of the trunking system if not for primary use most definitely for (encrypted??) tactical/records checks use.

Just to confirm, the control channels are

scc 774.06875 **not 773.06875 ?**
scc 773.56875
scc 774.05625

If I had to take a guess (based on information I have) I would say La Cumbre but it could very well be someplace else.

Being that several "unknown" sites have popped up it sure would be nice if Cal OES could update the coverage maps on the website ;-) although I truly enjoy hunting for sites in the blind while I'm back home in California. It's a great way to see parts of the state that you otherwise wouldn't visit.
