Hello All.

I called Uniden America today because I am having the same problem that alot of other people seem to be having with their HomePatrol, and that is the date mismatch between the HP-1 and alot of computers. The guy from Uniden said there is a problem with the device and told me to ship it back to Uniden for a replacement HP-1...Has anybody done this yet?...Ive been trying on my own to play around with the settings in the Regional and Language Options in Control Panel but still it doesnt fix this problem...Does anybody know any other solutions?

Thanks Sheldon.

Are you sure Uniden told you to ship it back? In the other thread, it was mentioned that engineering is working on a fix, and my guess is that it would be a firmware issue.

You also might try finding a PC with the MM/DD/YY format already set?

My last thread.

Hi.

Yup thats what the Uniden guy told me to do, was ship it back to Uniden...I did read the post that engineering is working on a fix...I think I will play the waiting game on this to see what Uniden comes up with.

My advice: keep the HP.

The customer service guy did not know what he is talking about.

Giving you another HP is not going to fix the issue as the issue is within the Sentinel program and not the HP itself.

Sentinel was designed to recognize mm-dd-yyyy as that is the prevailing
method of date display in the US. Once Sentinel is updated
to also allow display of dd-mm-yyyy then all should be well again.

In the meantime you can either adjust the date display in your computer
to match the mm-dd-yyyy or use an alternate computer.

The Home Patrol itself should continue to work.

What? You mean to tell me that Uniden's support staff was misinformed? Although I will likely buy the HP one day, I will wait until some of these annoying bugs have been worked out. I have the utmost respect for the electronic engineers at Uniden, but their support staff remind me of an episode of Beavis & Butthead.

Hi.

I should have asked this before but because I dont have the version information in my HP-1 completely up-to-date will that affect the methods used to program the HP-1 like the Postal Code method (which never finds any channels for my area) or even City Name after I scroll down and select London ON, that option loads in stuff from Cleveland and other places that I dont want, Ive even played around with the Range option either way and I still cant get what I want...I just want to be able to monitor everything in Middlesex County. Could anyone please tell me step by step in laymans terms howto program my HP-1?

Thanks Sheldon.

It will be a manual process with the software until you can update your HP-1 database.

Too bad they can't also include the ISO8601 date format of yyyy-mm-dd

So are you able to update the master HPDB on your computer at all?

Have you been able to change your date to the format that Uniden wants?

Have you been able to update the firmware on your HP at all?

Even with the date problem, you should be able to add the London area to a favorites list and sent that to your HP.

I selected London, ON in my HP and came back with a ton of stuff.

Hi.

Hi Mike.

Yes I am able to update the master HPDB and I have the current version of it. I changed the date in my Computer so that it shows October 17 2010. May I ask specifically what systems you can show for London (Middlex County) in Sentinel? Does any of the programming methods work for you when you load them into your HP-1?

Sheldon.

I show all of them. Everything listed in the Radioreference database for Middlesex is in Sentinel. There's too many to list.

Is there a system in particular that you think you're missing?

On your computer, under Start/Settings/Control Panel/Regional and Language Options/, under the Regional Options tab, what does the first drop down menu show?

I suspect this isn't a Date/Time problem as the one person that I know of that experienced the problem wasn't able to update his HPDB at all. You can update your database which makes me think you've got another problem.

Were you able to update your firmware? What firmware version do you have? The process of updating your firmware shouldn't be date specific.

If you can't update your firmware then it's likely a USB problem between your computer and your HP.

What exactly happens when you plug in your HP to your computer? What do you see on the screen when you select "Write to HomePatrol"

Hi.

Hi Mike.

I want to be able to monitor everything from Aboutown Transportation through to Forest City Communications and all the other systems listed in between. The drop down menu in Regional Options says English (Canada)...I was uninstalling software I didnt need anymore like an adapter I have for the 996xt to connect it to usb port but Im still getting the same results. Out of date database version and out of date help version both from July 2010. I still cant read or write anything to and from the HP-1

Mine is set to English (United States). You might want to change your settings to that.

Now, once again:

Were you able to update your firmware?

What firmware version do you have?

What exactly happens when you plug in your HP to your computer?

What do you see on the screen when you select "Write to HomePatrol"

It's much easier to help you when you answer the questions asked.

I do see Aboutown Transportation and a couple of Forest City Communications entries on mine.

Hi.

The Version Information straight from my HP-1's screen reads as follows:

Firmware Version: 1.01

Database Version: 07/02/2010

Help Version: 07/14/2010

I went into regional options and changed some things but im still at square one.

Wait, what? This is the first I've heard about this (haven't really been following the HP threads)
You're telling me that the Sentinel software was written in such a way that it requires you to have a certain date format set in Windows? That's... so poor it's laughable.
So when my HP arrives I'll be out of luck with the software and my current date format of yyyy-mm-dd until I change it to mm-dd-yyyy?

I can't help but laugh out loud at that...

Hi.

I have tried and tried and tried to update the Database Version and the Help Version via Sentinel to no avail. Those 2 things would be from July. Im sure I saw on here that theres newer dates for 2 of those things. I just wanna be able to update stuff and be able to program the HP-1 by any of the easy methods. Im getting P.O'd here.

Sheldon.

I doubt it's a date issue then.

Looks like you've got a problem with your USB port. Have you tried connecting any other USB device to it (besides your serial adaptor)?

If you've got another computer, give that a try.

Unfortunately, I know very little about Windows and troubleshooting USB port problems so you're on your own.
