Fellow Net Controllers,
As a Net Controller for two different clubs nets as well as my own weekly net (on a 70cm repeater) I'm trying to drum up ideas for good net topics. Would love to hear some of the great ideas other net controllers have for topics on there nets!!!! So far this month I've got an interactive net with the topic being "Q" codes, What is Amateur Radio?, and a net dedicated to "Net Topics". Also topics such as "What got you into ham radio?", "What is your favorite radio & why?" & Repeater Terminology!!!! What others do people have to add!!!!

Just about anything "ham radio" would be a great topic as long as it is geared towards your audience's level of understanding. The hardest part is finding guest lecturers to present the topic. Don't do all of the sessions by yourself.

Ham radio is open to just about any topic you can think of. Like directional antennas, coax feed lines, different kind of wire antennas, RF power amps, software defined radios, interfacing computers to your ham radios, programming older commercial radios like Motorola, how to get slower computers to run under DOS. The list just goes on and on.

Make sure you ask for each member of the net to give their personal feedback on what ever the topic is for that net session. Let the comments flow from each person and don't limit the time they take to respond.

You might even consider a couple of net sessions on emergency communications and what the different users do for radios and antennas. How they power their radios when the commercial power goes out.

If you can't come up with topics, you need to step down as net control and let someone else take over. Ask for ideas for topics to be used in the future. Don't try to be the only one coming up with the topics. This is a joint venture by all involved.

Net topics

I'd start with a weekly question like "What was your first antenna and how did it work out?" or "What kind of radio do you have?" or "Have you ever been to Dayton and did you buy anything?", etc.
Topics that get the ball rolling, and everyone will want to check in and say something.

Yeah, you could have some sort of technical topic, but how many will just say "no comment" and not participate, or possibly even not check in because the topic at hand gets foggy right from the get-go?

You could have a net talking about the recent forum posts here on RR.com. There are so many topics being discussed here on the boards to pick from.
