Any info appreciated. Got some off a earlier post I'd made, but heard very little -- only 1 freq in the 856 or 857 range had activity, generally 2 or 3 times a day, & I'd think CalTrans would be busier than that :) (I live about 100 yards from major highway) and it was scratchy with indoor & outdoor antennas -- so was wondering if there was any updated info on District 6 around now.

Kernville Oak Flat C2 812.7375 857.7375 123
Pinehurst Converse Mountain C4 812.7375 857.7375 136.5
Construction Pelato Peak G1 814.7375 859.7375 110.9
Construction Bear Peak G1 814.7375 859.7375 110.9
Construction Deadwood Peak G2 814.7375 859.7375 123

Shaver Lake Musick Mountain N4 811.7625 856.7625 136.5

And if they aren't there I'd check their old Low-band stuff at:
Ch 1 White 47.020
Ch 2 Black 47.040
Ch 3 Brown 47.060
Ch 4 Orange 47.080
Ch 5 Yellow 47.100
Ch 6 Blue 47.120
Ch 7 Gray 47.160
Ch 8 Purple 47.180
Ch 9 Red 47.200
Ch 10 Green 47.240

Keep your eyes peeled to see what type of antennas are on their vehicles if you're still getting nothing. It's rarely ever anything other than 800 or VHF-Low.

First off ....... the Frequency I was trying to think of as only one I'd heard activity on was 856.9875, & as noted, didn't have much useage.

I'll try those listed & see what happens, I have the tone squelch thing in the 785D turned off, so I should hear everything on a channel, toned or not?

Now that I think of it --- I think that I also tried 811.9875, but only heard one side (Dispatcher??).

With 800 MHz the lower freq's are the control/mobile freqs, and most likely you will only hear the one side of the convo, and possibly talk around. The higher freqs are the repeaters and most times you will hear both sides of the convos on these. ex: 821.7875 Control/mobiles (and talkaround sometimes.) 851.7875 Repeater output.

Question: Didn't CalTrans at one time also have frequencies somewhere between 150 & 152 MHz. or 154 & 155 MHz.? If so, are they still used?

I believe they still are licensed for mobile use on 151MHz freqs. Typically they're used in handhelds by like their surveyors, etc. I can't think of one time where I've ever heard them use them for base <-> mobile.

In my area there are a bunch of conventional 800 freqs that I know work but DOT still seems to favor particular sites. So I'd defintiely listen to all of them regardless of where they are. You generally will not hear anyone else as the State has them licensed for pretty much statewide.

Put the frequencies in (including the 47 MHz.), on evening of the 23rd., and only heard activity on 2 between then & now:

856.7625 .... Which sounds like a Bus Company, refer to "Routes" and picking people up that called the company.

856.9875 ... heard someone ask another driver which way to turn at the intersection (Only thing heard on it.)

I don't have the tone thing turned on in the BC785D, so if Manual is right, I should hear everything coming through? Or, wonder if 6 may be on Trunking now? :?

Nothing new on the frequencies regarding things heard, so took them out of scanner (BC785D)

There are at least 3 Cell-type towers within a mile of me, and if trees and a building weren't in the way think I could see 1 from front porch :) but as to who owns them I don't know.
They're not by the highway itself, all 3 are roughly a 1/4 mile from it, and from tower #1 to tower #3 is roughly a mile and a half.

So you haven't seen a Caltrans vehicle lately? (so you can identify the antenna band, or describe it to us here)

Ones I've seen had antennas approximately 18" in length, BUT think I've also seen one or 2 with a 18" antenna, AND a whip shorter than a 102" CB Whip--- 5 feet maybe?

The 18" ones, did they have a coil in the middle?

I believe so..... I keep thinking I saw a smaller (about 6" ?) antenna on top of the cab's of a few, but might have been looking at some sort of equipment mounting from an angle that made it look as if there was a small antenna there....

Wonder if they might've moved #6 to Trunk? If so, that's going to be a problem to program in on this BC-785D.

Decided to try 2 frequencies described as Statewide (859.7375, 856.9875) for CalTrans in the "RR Database", and see if I hear anything -- I only live about 100 yards from a Interstate Highway, so I should be able to hear something unless they're Trunking in District 6 -- which would bring it to a quick halt since I've had no luck at all at manually programming Trunk stuff into the 785D....
