I just had access to some information on the conventional radio system used by Caltrans in every district except their districts 1 and 2 (northern CA north of about Willows). This is the best information I've come across for this agency in over 20 years. With the exception of District 7 (LA/Ventura Counties) each channel is labeled according to the area it is used in rather than identified by mountain top electronic site. I will need to cross reference each frequency with FCC licenses and the use area shown on the radio display to determine frequency use by electronic site. After doing this I will start posting threads and making RR database submissions one or two districts at a time.
I've already been able to solve a mystery about frequency use in the Indio to Blythe area that I've been trying to solve for almost 15 years. As I travel to the Phoenix area to visit family about once per year and observed Caltrans crews in that area using radios and was not receiving them, I was quite happy to come across this information. The information I received is about as official as can be obtained.
Stay tuned for further.
