That says it all. Haven’t heard them in ages and I can see South Mtn out my window. Before the advent of cell phones, smart phones, etc SM was busy during deluges like this past week. But now nothing. Yet I can receive Sisar 859.1625 which is beyond LOS 15 miles across the foothills. I can also detect Lukens.at receiver threshold.

Can someone with inside knowledge of CALTRANS District 7 operations fill me in on the use, (or non-use) of SM for incidents along CA 126 from Ventura to the LA county line?

A "dumb" question but have you scanned the whole known CalTrans block of frequencies to see if maybe they changed the frequency on the site? That would be my first move knowing something isn't being picked up.

Besides South Mtn, I forgot to mention Oat Mtn which would also be local. While the possibility exist that one or both could have changed frequencies, I highly doubt it. I have swept the 851-861 band in the past & will do so during the next downpour. Doing so now that things should have quieted down radio-wise doesn't seem prudent.

I still think it's a matter of operational strategy.

I'd scan the band anyway...I get occasional hits during dry times for D4 traffic in the SF Bay.

Check the PL. Over the years that has changed on a couple of times on LA basin frequencies. And yes frequency could as well has shifted also.

But from my own perspective, Caltrans radio usage has declined. I rarely hear LA units on the trunk system(seems mostly OC) and standalone sites like Lukens can go quiet for an entire day seemingly. Suspect cell phones are often utilized to contact their offices and between units.

LAflyer, your prospective coincides with mine as stated above.

Regarding PL, in both the programmed & search modes I set PL to SEARCH.
