Camp Grayling moving to MPSCS

For those in the Grayling area (Crawford County):

It started with one radio, and now many Motorola Astro portables have been introduced to Camp Grayling Nat. Guard base in Grayling, Michigan. Unsure if any additional talkgroups will be created, but it looks like they are going to drop thier current VHF highband system. Rumors suggest the base will start using the state's new system sometime this summer. This includes range control and military police / security.

Yep, I heard 3 years ago, eventually, that was there plans for all the Michigan National Guard would to be on MPSCS because of Homeland Security.

My sister-inlaw, knew that her husband couldn't get the Michigan State Police on his scanner, so for his Birthday, She went to the local Radio Shack, they sold her a 800 mg scanner and told her all she had to do is get the frequencies from the Michigan State Police. Unfortunately, She did what Radio Shack said. So after She bought it from Radio Shop, went to Post 53, here in Niles, She was told no Scanner could pick up there new frequencies and also they told her if there was a scanner available that could do this, the frequncies would never be given to the public., because the Michigan National Guard is moving to this system also and Homeland Security will never allow thier frequencies to be given out!

Isn't it strange how in 3 short years, things change, the MPSCS Frequencies are now common knowlege but the plans to put the Michigan National Guard on MPSCS are for Homeland Security are still happening!

That just goes to show ya that anyone w/ a Minimum wage job will tell ya anything...And that most LEO's (I'm a retired one) But not all, will be VERY IGNORANT and will tell you stuff they also have no clue about.

Just a heads up. I have been hearing activity off of the Northville tower (206) from range control. This could be interesting to listen to.

1228 4cc D Camp Grayling - Range Control

First talkgroup to show up on the MPSCS. I'm sure there will be more to come, like security and the MP's, pehaps more. It is also a possibility that they will only use one talkgroup for all operations, like they do/did on VHF. Anyone hearing any traffic on the above talkgroup, let us know who's talking!

I was up at the base over the weekend and a few groups of marines were out and about playing war games all day and night. During the day I noticed that their Hummers kept going back and fourth to the range contol building. So anyways, I hope this helps you ID some of the radio traffic on the range control talkgroup.

The only thing that I have heard is testing. I haven't heard any regular traffic as of yet.

Alright, update time. I tried to submit an update to the MPSCS information, but I guess they didn't want to put up the Display Names for some of the channels I have??
