Can A Balun Damage Your Radio?

I was having poor reception on HF with my long wire antenna so on a recommendation I put a 9:1 balun in the line and connected it to my Tecsun’s antenna jack. Unless the conditions have been really bad this week it seems like the reception on the radio got very noisy compared to a couple of my other shortwave radios.
I’d like to keep using the balun if it would be safe for use with portable radios

Sounds like it is working. The noise/static increase is something I would expect.

If it did not help, a typical strong signal would be reduced. Try WWV on 10MHz AM with and without the balun inline.
