Sorry for the stupid quesiton, but I'm not very expert at this kind of stuff, but I came across this while shopping on Newegg website and was wondoering if this could be a good alternative for monitoring VHF and UHF radios?

I live near an airport (CYQB) and would like an outdoor antenna but don't have much money ton invest in a complex setup so could this improve reception?

Thanks for your help and sorry in advance for the stupid quesiton... :D

Yes, you can use a TV antenna for VHF/UHF (I am using one right now and have gotten 60+ miles). Only disadvantage is TV is horizontal polarized and police etc. is vertical. This will have an effect on the reception sensitivity. Now if you mount the TV antenna vertically that would work best. Also don't worry about the 75/50 ohm mismatch between the scanner and the coax. It won't make a big difference.

Don't look now but that antenna isn't for VHF, go back and read the ad. One glance at the picture says why, it's physically too small.
