Hey, I have a question about a local DMR system. I have a TYT DMR radio with software to program it. Does this mean I can program the radio to receive AND transmit on the system with info from the RR database? If so how do I go about that.
The software asks for a receive frequency and transmit frequency. There aren't many fields to fill in in the software. so it looks like it should be easy.

Are you licensed and/or permitted by system admin to transmit on said system? Is it an amateur radio repeater or LMR (land mobile radio) system) ?

It's illegal to monitor DMR??? I'm not sure the relevance of what you quoted to my question. I'd like to know how to program DMR system into DMR radio. If you have any tips I'd be grateful.

You specifically asked,

Does this mean I can program the radio to receive AND transmit on the system with info from the RR database?
And then,
If so how do I go about that.

Of course you can monitor DMR, that is not the issue. You previously suggested using info from this site for radio programming which could lead to unauthorized transmission. Do everyone a favor and check mark Rx Only in your software.

Just to be clear what do you mean by this? What are your intentions?

The answer to your question is yes, but it is illegal to do so unless you are authorized. I was thinking about getting one but the transmit capability makes me nervous. I was considering disconnecting the PTT. Can you let me know if there is some way to shut off the transmitter and/or PTT once you have it figured out.

You can put the channels in for receive only. I think there is a place on each channel to click for receive only.
For some other radios, to do receive only, you just leave the transmit frequency blank. When doing receive only there is no way to transmit all you get is tone.
This how do public safety receive on all my commercial radios, so as not to transmit.

I am actually just a complete beginner when it comes to this stuff, and I'm trying to get a better understanding of why you are taking issue with my question. If you're not allowed to program radios for DMR, just tell me and we can move on. You're making it sound like I'm doing something wrong.

Is it legal to transmit on a DMR system or is there something in the law that says you can only receive. I understand the majority of the people on this website receive only because they use scanners, but based on people's answers it seems that I shouldn't be transmitting? Can you confirm if it's legal to do that or not?

There's a software option to receive only. So it's illegal to transmit on a DMR system? You're the only person who is being direct with me.
